Labor and Delivery NurseThe Labor and Delivery nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for the application of the nursing process and the delivery of patient care in the L&D Setting. The Labor and Delivery nurse demonstrates the ability to make clinical judgments in an effective and efficient manner with supervision.The labor and delivery nurse works with mothers during the final stages of pregnancy helping with birthing, monitoring the mother's vital signs, and becoming astute in signs and symptoms of possible complications. The labor and delivery nurse is involved in patient education and addressing the psychosocial needs of mothers after delivery and demonstrates critical thinking and performance ability in the coordination of patient care. Consistently performs according to nursing standards and is accountable in managing patient care and assisting others in the management of patient care.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient careAssess signs and symptoms indicating physiologic and psychosocial changes in the patient's conditionCollects, analyzes, and interprets data and information from healthcare members and documents actual and/or potential nursing diagnosesPlans for expected outcomes of care for those patients assignedPerforms interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, and the hospital policies and patient care outcome standardProvides a safe, comfortable and therapeutic patient environmentUses clinical judgment in the evaluation of activities to meet patient care needs of an assigned unit/floor including establishing prioritiesMonitors the safety and effectiveness of the environment and equipmentPromotes interpersonal relations with patients/family/significant others, hospital healthcare coworkers, and physiciansUses effective communication skills with all contacts while being objective and sensitiveCommunicates pertinent information about patient, nursing unit, and activities as appropriateMonitors vital signs for the mother and babyAdministers medication as orderedMonitors contractions and fetal heart rateIdentifies complications during labor and deliveryCommunicates the mother's condition and needs to the physicianCoaches the mother during labor and delivery and provides emotional supportCaring for the mother after she gives birthPerforms other duties as assigned/necessaryMinimum Requirements:Current Registered Nurse license within the state of practice.One year of Labor and Delivery clinical experience within the last three years preferred.Complies with all relevant professional standards of practiceParticipation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicableCurrent CPR if applicableTB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicableCurrent Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)Must meet all federal, state and local requirementsSuccessful completion of new hire training as applicable to job siteUnderstand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirementsAbility to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is requiredComputer proficiency requiredMust be at least 18 years of agePay: $2,448 - $2,846 per week Benefits At Amergis, we firmly believe that our employees are the heartbeat of our organization and we are happy to offer the following benefits:Competitive pay & weekly paychecksHealth, dental, vision, and life insurance401(k) savings planAwards and recognition programs*Benefit eligibility is dependent on employment status.About Amergis Amergis, formerly known as Maxim Healthcare Staffing, has served our clients and communities by connecting people to the work that matters since 1988.
