Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Job Description

This role supports the Operations Maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing automated material handling, packaging, and distribution equipment, including conveyor systems, pneumatic systems, and robotics. You will troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, perform preventive and predictive maintenance, and help ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of the facility’s material handling systems.

Responsibilities

• Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and standards.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance routines on material handling equipment and pneumatic systems, ensuring all work is properly documented.
• Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and other components.
• Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment in accordance with equipment specifications and safety guidelines.
• Use a multimeter and other diagnostic tools to identify and resolve electrical and electronic issues.
• Maintain positive working relationships across all areas of the operations facility and collaborate effectively with other teams.
• Track, organize, and store department inventory, tools, and spare parts to support maintenance activities.
• Move and handle equipment and materials up to 49 lbs and support operations during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Access equipment located at heights or in confined areas by climbing steps or ladders, kneeling, squatting, crouching, and reaching as needed to install or move equipment.
• Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), when applicable, to record work orders, maintenance activities, and parts usage.
• Support robotic operation and maintenance activities as needed, including basic troubleshooting of input and output functions.
• Adhere to material handling equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer and applicable safety guidelines.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience working with automated conveyor systems and controls.
• At least 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment.
• At least 2 years of experience performing predictive and preventive maintenance procedures.
• At least 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
• At least 1 year of experience applying electrical and electronic principles in a maintenance or similar environment.
• Ability to use a multimeter safely and effectively for electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to move up to 49 lbs and stand and walk during shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Ability to reach overhead, kneel, squat, climb steps and ladders, and frequently lift up to 50 lbs of equipment.
• Ability to crouch and reach to install or move equipment by bending at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
• Ability to walk between departments, floors, and properties, including walking 6 to 12 miles per day, as needed to facilitate work.
• Ability to work in environments with fluctuating temperatures.
• Ability to perform tasks while wearing a mask, face shield, and composite-toed boots.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in the mechanical or electrical field.
• At least 2 years of apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the mechanical or electrical field.
• Experience with material handling equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer and safety guidelines.
• Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Project management experience related to maintenance or facility projects.
• Experience with robotic operation and maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions in automated systems.
• Strong documentation skills for recording maintenance activities and inventory usage.
• Ability to maintain positive, cooperative working relationships in a fast-paced operations environment.

Work Environment

This position is based in a large, automated operations facility that uses material handling equipment, automated conveyor systems, pneumatic systems, and robotics. You will work around running conveyor lines, motors, sensors, and control systems, using tools such as multimeters and computer-based maintenance systems. Shifts can last up to 12 hours and involve extensive walking—often 6 to 12 miles per day—as you move between departments, floors, and properties to support equipment throughout the building. The role is physically demanding and requires frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs, climbing steps and ladders, kneeling, squatting, crouching, and reaching to access and service equipment. You will work in areas with fluctuating temperatures and may need to perform tasks while wearing a mask, face shield, and composite-toed boots in accordance with site safety requirements. Much of the work is performed on or near production floors and maintenance areas, with a combination of hands-on equipment work and brief periods at a computer or stand-up desk for 1–2 hours per day to document activities and manage work orders.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $32.50 - $32.50/hr.
