Licensed Practical Nurse - LPN - Senior Progressive Care Unit

Description Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital, 3 Lacks is a 32 all private bed acute care unit that serves patients that are 65 & older. The unit is high acuity and adaptable, with patients regularly on telemetry, cardiac drips, high‑flow oxygen, Bi‑PAP, and other advanced monitoring. Under the general direction of the Registered Nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct patient care to all ages of patients. The LPN assists the RN in performing and coordinating care for a specific group of patients. Full access to medications is given to the LPN; responsibilities include handling, preparing, and administering medication within the LPN scope of practice. What you will need High school diploma or equivalent and graduate of an accredited LPN program Current Practical Nurse license in the State of Michigan CPR or BLS Certified What you will do Assist with the initial and ongoing assessment of assigned patients through observation and data collection, as delegated by the RN. Perform activities delegated by the RN and/or Physician, including but not limited to: Venipuncture for specimens, including blood cultures. Initiate and discontinue peripheral short‑tunneled IV catheters. Insert and discontinue indwelling and intermittent clean urinary catheters. Obtain laboratory specimens and perform basic laboratory procedures, such as point‑of‑care blood glucose, stool sampling, and sputum collection. Perform basic bedside care and selected procedures under RN supervision: 12‑lead ECG, dressing changes, routine respiratory care (coughing, deep breathing, incentive spirometry, pulse oximetry, oxygen setup and administration, handheld nebulizer), vital signs, and recognition, reporting, and intervention for life‑threatening conditions. Administer physician‑directed treatments such as eye irrigation. Perform other unit‑specific activities such as activities of daily living appropriate to the patient's condition.
