PRN Licensed Practical Nurse - Various Shifts Agency: 650 DEPARTMENT OF VETERANS AFFAIRS Employment Type: Part time, Temporary Compensation: $44.00 per hour Schedule: Shift hours vary; 24 hours per week Basic Purpose Perform technical direct and indirect nursing care in a clinic, hospital, institution, or home setting under the supervision of a registered nurse, licensed physician, or dentist. Tasks include taking vital signs, administering medications, and providing routine nursing support. Typical Functions Perform nursing procedures or specialized functions in accordance with knowledge, skills, and licensure. Participate in the evaluation of responses to interventions. Teach basic nursing skills and related principles. Delegate nursing care tasks such as taking temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure; giving enemas, douches, and sitz baths; collecting specimens; and measuring intake and output. Assist in assessing, reporting, and recording health status of patients, families, and groups in various settings. Participate in developing and implementing appropriate aspects of a plan of care. Administer medications as ordered. Report appropriate patient information to supervisor or other health team members. Serve as Charge Nurse on a unit, supervising staff performing medication administration and patient care. Level Descriptor Specialist level: responsible for complex nursing tasks, leading work assignments, providing training, and ensuring quality of care meets established standards. Education and Experience Possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a Licensed Practical Nurse approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing plus at least two years of practical nursing experience, or a Licensed Practical Nurse License recognized by the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC) with at least two years of practical nursing experience. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Knowledge of nursing techniques, procedures, practices, and theory; medical terminology; and infection control. Ability to exercise sound judgment, follow detailed instructions, establish effective working relationships, provide nursing care to patients or clients, and monitor and direct the work of others. Special Requirements For positions within the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, a current certification as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or active pursuit of CADC certification is required. Upon appointment, incumbents may be required to complete departmental-sponsored training in case management, such as Certified Behavioral Health Case Manager – Adult, Child, Adolescent and Family, or Dual Certification.
