Respiratory Therapist, FT Nights (Non-NICU)

Job Summary The Respiratory Therapist II is responsible for medication administration and implementing respiratory care based on expanded knowledge, experience, and the evaluate‑and‑treat process. The RT II delivers patient care in complex, multiple‑problem situations, primarily in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, significant independent decision‑making and self‑direction. The role includes patient, family/support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self‑developmental activities. The RT II provides patient care with an understanding of population‑specific needs and addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial and patient/family education needs. The RT II also participates in the education of new employees and others. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions Provides customer service through completion of patient care, documentation and education. Supports a team approach to service, promotes a team spirit and a positive work environment. Supports a supportive environment for students and staff. Administers quality patient care: performs patient assessment and therapy assessment; collaborates with the health‑care team; verifies orders and administers aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen & medical gas therapy; performs ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation and airway management (intubation, extubation, trach tube change and care); performs arterial blood gas sampling & analysis. Educates patients and mentors/precepts new employees, students and peers. Assists in invasive and non‑invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, pulmonary diagnostic testing (location specific). Promotes a safe and quality environment: promotes accurate electronic orders, charting and charging; promotes medication safety, NPSG, etc.; participates in performance improvement initiatives; promotes evidence‑based practice; reviews revised and new DPPs. Performs other duties as assigned and complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education Associate’s degree in Respiratory Therapy or Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy (preferred). Required Minimum Licenses and Certifications NBRC‑RRT – Registered Respiratory Therapist RCP – Respiratory Care Professional BLS or ARC‑BLS – Basic Life Support BLS‑I – Basic Life Support – Instructor (if applicable) ACLS or ARC‑ALS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support ACLS‑I – ACLS – Instructor (if applicable) Required Minimum Experience 0–2 years clinical experience, with a minimum of six months in critical care. Required Minimum Skills Excellent communication and critical thinking skills. Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with physicians and other health‑care professionals. Computer skills including familiarity with databases. Good customer relation, assessment, and communication skills. Work Hours Full time, days – 36 hours per week.
