Horse Caretaker

The purpose of this classification is to care for horses housed at the County's horse farm and to perform general maintenance and upkeep of the facility. Essential functions include feeding and watering horses, monitoring horse health, exercising horses, grooming and cleaning horses, cleaning stalls, maintaining fences, and assisting boarding clients.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, one year work experience in any field, or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Supplemental information includes at least five years of hands-on horse-handling experience, at least three years of experience performing barn operations and animal-care duties, at least three years of experience operating farm equipment and performing related maintenance tasks, demonstrated dependability, punctuality, and effective communication skills, and the ability to exercise sound judgment, remain calm under pressure, and perform responsibilities safely and independently.
