Acute Psych Unit Registered Nurse Work Shift: Night – 12 hour shift (United States of America) Job Purpose The purpose of this position is to protect and promote health, prevent illness and injury, and alleviate suffering through nursing diagnosis and treatment. The nurse demonstrates leadership in the professional practice setting through oversight of the interdisciplinary health‑care team to provide holistic care and advocate for patients and families served. Qualifications CA RN license , BLS certification , and Kaweah Health approved crisis intervention training within 60 days of hire/transfer required. Education preferred: BSN, MSN, or current enrollment in an RN‑BSN program. Responsibilities The nurse’s practice is guided by the Code of Ethics and professional behavior, including respectful interactions with coworkers. Identifies high‑risk patients and initiates interventions in collaboration with ancillary departments; makes ethical decisions on behalf of patients. Maintains patient confidentiality and acts as a patient advocate. Delivers care in a non‑judgmental, nondiscriminatory manner that preserves patient autonomy, dignity, and rights. Utilizes the nursing process: assessment (Physical Assessment validation), diagnosis, planning, outcome identification, implementation, and evaluation. Collects clinical data to monitor quality and effectiveness of nursing care; identifies care aspects for quality monitoring and formulates recommendations to improve outcomes. Assists in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and practice guidelines to improve quality of care and nursing practice. Participates on interdisciplinary teams evaluating clinical practice or health services related to patient care. Participates in QI studies (task force or committee), implements suggestions for improving outcomes, and shares findings of studies and audits with others. Collaborates and communicates with the patient, family, and other health‑care providers; utilizes peer review and observation; monitors documentation for appropriate referrals. Formulates the plan of care, involves the patient in decisions related to care delivery, and makes referrals as needed. Provides leadership and support for staff as the primary clinical resource and nurse‑manager representative during absences. Assists nurse preceptors and new employees during orientation; provides input on employee evaluations. Manages staff and patient flow: assigns admissions, coordinates transfers, ensures timely shift reports, monitors breaks, and determines staffing needs for the next shift. Ensures equipment checks are completed (PCX controls, crash cart, refrigerator temperatures, red books, narcotic counts). Coordinates care in high‑risk/emergent situations, keeps the nurse manager responsible for critical patients, and documents and reports patient‑care issues. Provides employee guidance, alerts the nurse manager of counseling needs, and makes fiscally responsible decisions regarding staffing and supplies. If assigned as Admission Nurse, notifies attending physician and case manager of pending problems, assists the charge nurse in unit assignments, communicates pertinent information, records physician orders, completes order communication, ensures expedient room assignment, coordinates admissions and discharges, triages calls, works with transferring facilities, gathers accurate information, facilitates communication, promotes cooperation, and assists in training new RN staff. Performs other duties as assigned. Team Leader Responsibilities (if assigned) Primary clinical resource for staff on the assigned unit. Acts as a role model and mentor; provides leadership and support through effective problem solving and decision making. Supports new employees during orientation and provides input on employee evaluations. Ensures float staff receive orientation, feel welcome, and are supported. Schedules staff assignments based on staff abilities and patient needs; coordinates admissions, transfers, and shift reports; monitors breaks to provide adequate staffing. Assists in financial decisions regarding staffing and patient supplies. Maintains open communication with physicians, other providers, and departments involved in patient care; documents and reports patient‑care issues; ensures the appropriate nurse completes a Statement of Concern. Provides guidance to staff, alerts the nurse manager of counseling needs, and performs additional duties as required. Pay Range: $53.41 – $80.12 per hour. #J-18808-Ljbffr
