Marine Technician ApprenticeThe Marine Technician Apprentice is responsible for assisting mechanics, electricians, and welder/fabricators to include maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairing of G&H Towing's harbor tugs and facilities.G&H employeesJob Responsibilities, Required Knowledge, SkillsAbility to continuously communicate effectively and professionallyAbility to familiarize yourself with company documents, including policies and procedures and the company Towing Management Systems (T.S.M.S)Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters and areas of the organizationAbility to manage multiple demands simultaneously while maintaining service standardsAbility to operate machinery, including power, mechanical, and hand toolsAbility to understand and execute complex oral and written instructionsAbility to read and interpret blueprints and schematicsAbility to work independently with minimal or no guidanceAdhere to all company policies and proceduresAdhere to all company safety and environmental policies while onboard tugs.Assisting in planning with mechanics, electricians, and welder/fabricators in the procedure qualifications and production as instructedAssist in preventative maintenance on tug and facility equipmentComplete any other duties assigned by the Director of Engineering, Manager, Engineering Support, and/or the Welder FormanConducting daily Toolbox meetingsEnsure work areas are kept clean, organized, and well-maintainedEnsuring adequate tools and supplies are readily available onboard to facilitate efficient welding operations.Ensuring all tools are kept in safe working conditions, properly maintained, and securely storedEnsuring that all welding is done in accordance with approved proceduresEnsuring welding leads and gas hoses are run in a congestion-free and safe manExcellent written and verbal communication skillsInspect and maintain welding tools and equipmentInstall tug and facility equipmentInterpersonal skills, including self-awareness and the ability to deal professionally with others and always make professional judgmentsKnowledge of DP vessel operationsMust be a team player and support the mission, vision, and goals of the company and the departmentMust be service-oriented and customer-centric to all internal and external customersPerform basic welding under supervision, such as grinding, cutting, and assembling metal parts.Prepare work areasProven ability to troubleshoot, test resolutions, and escalate common issuesProven analytical and problem-solving skillsResponsible for declining unsafe work and ensuring all tasks are performed in compliance with established HSES safety standards and work practices while making sure all activities adhere to safety and quality requirements.Strong communication, organizational, analytical, time management, problem-solving, and planning skillsTransport and set up welding equipment and materialsTroubleshoot and repair tug and facility equipmentWrite Job Safety Analyses (GARs)Education & ExperienceA High school diploma or GED is required; an advanced degree is preferred; extensive experience may be considered in lieu of educationA minimum of five years of industry experience in one or more fields: welding, HVAC, electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, or piping systems.Attention to detail and problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal skillsRequires proficiency with computer hardware and software to include Microsoft Office applications, using a computer with a keyboard and mouse, navigation with a web browser, checking and sending email, and use of internet search enginesRequired Licensure & CertificationsRequires an active and valid driver's licenseWorking ConditionsWork hours will be assigned based on business needs. By request from the department manager or department director.
