Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Equipment Operator with a strong background in construction grading and site development. The ideal candidate will be capable of operating heavy equipment while accurately interpreting grading plans, survey information, and benchmarks to ensure building pads are constructed to specification and ready for foundation work.

This position requires a detail-oriented professional who understands the importance of precision earthwork, elevation control, drainage requirements, and project schedules.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, loaders, skid steers, graders, compactors, and other earthmoving equipment.
• Perform rough and finish grading for residential, commercial, and site development projects.
• Read and interpret complete grading, civil, and surveying plans.
• Establish and verify elevations using survey benchmarks, laser levels, grade rods, and other grade control equipment.
• Understand cut/fill calculations and ensure grading is completed according to project specifications.
• Prepare building pads to proper elevations, compaction requirements, and tolerances for foundation installation.
• Work closely with surveyors, superintendents, project managers, and utility crews.
• Maintain safe work practices and follow all OSHA and company safety requirements.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance.
• Identify and resolve grading issues before they impact downstream construction activities.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction grading or site development.
• Strong understanding of grading, drainage, and earthwork operations.
• Ability to read and interpret grading plans, site plans, and survey drawings.
• Experience working from survey benchmarks and control points.
• Proficient with laser levels and grade checking equipment.
• Ability to calculate and maintain proper elevations, slopes, and drainage patterns.
• Experience preparing building pads for foundation construction.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

• GPS machine control experience (Trimble, Topcon, Leica, or similar).
• Experience coordinating with survey crews and inspectors.
• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
• Commercial, multifamily, or large-scale residential grading experience.
