Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Position Overview

This role involves providing exceptional respiratory care to patients with cardiopulmonary disorders in a fast-paced healthcare environment. The Registered Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessment, therapeutic intervention, and education of patients, ensuring high-quality care and safety during all procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct respiratory therapy assessments and protocols.
• Perform arterial punctures and blood gas analysis.
• Manage ventilator and non-invasive ventilation (NIV) therapy.
• Administer medication delivery and assist with airway clearance techniques.
• Support intubations, bedside tracheostomy placement, and bronchoscopy procedures.
• Perform tracheostomy changes and decannulation, as well as extubations.
• Participate in emergency response teams and assist with ICU rounds.
• Facilitate patient transport within the facility as needed.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of recent experience in respiratory therapy.
• Previous experience in a Level 1 trauma center and ICU; ER experience is preferred.
• Familiarity with facilities offering 300+ beds is highly desirable.
• Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) via NBRC is preferred; Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) will be considered.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA is required.
• North Dakota state license required or the willingness to apply within 72 hours of offer acceptance.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications preferred.

Work Schedule

The position requires rotating shifts, including every other weekend and holidays. The primary shift length is 12 hours, with opportunities for additional shifts as needed. While working, therapists are never alone; there is always a charge therapist and a team of respiratory therapists scheduled for support.

Equipment Utilized

The Registered Respiratory Therapist will work with various equipment, including:

• Epic EMR
• Omnicell medication cabinets
• Hamilton G5 & C1 ventilators
• Philips CoughAssist
• Aerogen and Nitric Oxide delivery systems
• Patient home vents such as Trilogy, Astral, and Vivo
• And other specialized respiratory therapy devices.

Orientation and Training

Successful candidates will complete a comprehensive orientation program, including lab orientation and preceptor shifts with experienced team members to ensure a smooth transition into the role.
