Lead Exercise Physiologist

Lead Exercise Physiology A full‑time exercise physiologist at Hospital for Special Surgery who provides general and sport‑specific training and fitness testing services for clients of all ages and conditions. Responsibilities Provide general and sport‑specific exercise training and fitness testing services for clients across the spectrum of age, fitness level, and medical and orthopedic conditions. Evaluate clients, determine and provide customized exercise prescription and sports‑specific fitness testing services as applicable. Work collaboratively with team members (physical therapists, occupational therapists, etc.) to ensure appropriate client programs. Participate in community outreach initiatives and present at professional education conferences. Assist with oversight of the Performance team, including coordination of services, program development, educational activities, marketing and media relations. Provide clinical instruction for staff and students. Organize work for maximum efficiency, maintain productivity, and manage daily schedule. Maintain and develop competence through required in‑service and continuing educational programs; keep CE credits current. Document progress, patient outcomes, and bill accurately and timely. Assist with daily operations of the team and build relationships to expand referral network. Perform program‑specific fitness assessments and design personalized training programs consistent with ACSM/NSCA guidelines. Develop comprehensive reports of assessment results and home exercise programs, review with clients. Provide guidance to EP staff for managing patient caseload (scheduling conflicts, challenging patients, documentation). Assist with marketing and public relations outreach for the Performance team. Competent in specialized testing or programmatic offering. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology or related field (required); Master’s degree preferred. Certifications from ACSM (ACSM‑EP preferred), NASM, ACE, or NSCA. 2 years of experience (required); 4 years preferred. Familiarity and experience with gait and movement mechanics analysis is a plus. Performance metabolic testing skills and experience with athletes highly preferred. Physical and Environmental Requirements Continuously stand, walk, or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20‑50 lbs). Work in an indoor area with exposure to mild physical discomfort from dust, fumes, temperature, and noise. Exposure to blood, body fluids, tissues, and other potentially infectious materials (OSHA Category 1).
