Commercial Sign Electrical & Final Assembly Apprentice (Temp-to-Hire)

Location: Grand Prairie, TX
Schedule: Monday – Thursday | 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Breaks: Paid 15-minute break at 9:00 AM, 30-minute lunch at 12:00 PM, and paid 15-minute break at 2:00 PM
Overtime: Available on Fridays as production schedules require
Pay Rate: $17.00–$22.00/hour (DOE)

About the Role

We are a commercial sign manufacturer producing high-quality, customer-facing signage for clients nationwide. We are seeking a Commercial Sign Electrical & Final Assembly Apprentice to assist with final sign assembly, LED electrical work, quality inspections, and shipping preparation.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience in commercial sign manufacturing, electrical assembly, or a related field and understands the importance of quality workmanship, attention to detail, and safe production practices. Familiarity with UL-labeled sign manufacturing and NEC requirements is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Wire commercial signs using shop drawings, work orders, wiring diagrams, and production notes
• Install LEDs, power supplies, wiring, and electrical components according to specifications
• Ensure all electrical components match intended sign layouts and installation requirements
• Install sign faces, backs, access panels, mounting hardware, drain holes, and related components
• Protect painted, vinyl, acrylic, and polycarbonate surfaces during assembly
• Complete final assembly of:
  • Channel Letters
  • Cabinet Signs
  • Wall Signs
  • Raceways
  • Wireways
  • Monument Sign Components
  • Directional Signs
  • Window Signs
• Assist the Shop Foreman with final quality inspections before products leave the facility
• Prepare completed signs for staging, crating, shipping, and installation
• Identify and communicate missing parts, drawing discrepancies, wiring concerns, or quality issues
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area

Qualifications

• Experience with electrical assembly, sign assembly, manufacturing, construction, or a related industry
• Ability to read and follow shop drawings, work orders, wiring diagrams, and production notes
• Proficiency using:
  • Wire strippers and cutters
  • Wire nuts and electrical connectors
  • Drills and drivers
  • Measuring tapes
  • Squares and levels
  • Caulking guns
  • Industrial adhesive applicators
  • General hand and power tools
• Strong measuring, layout, fastening, fit-up, and inspection skills
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational and communication abilities
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision
• Ability to stand, bend, reach, lift, and carry materials throughout the workday

Preferred Qualifications

• Commercial sign manufacturing experience
• Electrical assembly experience
• Illuminated sign production experience
• Formal electrician training
• Forklift operation experience
• Familiarity with UL documentation, label records, and production-line testing
• Understanding of NEC requirements and sign industry best practices

Work Environment

• Covered production facility with some partially covered and open-air work areas
• Exposure to heat during summer months
• Frequent work around aluminum, acrylic, polycarbonate, painted surfaces, LEDs, wiring, power supplies, fasteners, and production equipment
• Team-oriented environment focused on safety, quality, consistency, and production flow
• Physical role requiring standing, lifting, bending, reaching, and carrying materials throughout the shift

What Success Looks Like

• Commercial LED signs are assembled correctly the first time
• Finished products are clean, aligned, and protected from damage
• Quality issues are identified and addressed before shipment
• Minimal rework is required
• Signs move efficiently from final assembly to inspection, staging, shipping, and installation
• Strong teamwork, communication, and attention to detail are demonstrated daily
