The California Conservation Corps (CCC) is offering an exceptional opportunity to join the founding leadership team as a Conservationist 2, Corpsmember Development (CMD), at our brand-new, Greenwood Residential Center! As the center’s Corpsmember Development (CMD) Lead, you will be the operational backbone of our residential facility, providing lead direction to center resident staff to maintain seamless 24/7 center coverage. You will play a vital role in shaping the futures of our young adult Corpsmembers by managing our comprehensive educational partnerships, overseeing career development pathways, and directing the critical COMET curriculum. From managing the center-wide corrective action program and Corpsmember development plans to deploying statewide as an official Agency Representative during critical emergencies, this role offers a balance of high-level project coordination and direct professional mentorship. Working Conditions

This position is classified as “In Office” and is not eligible for telework.

The selected incumbent will work at a brand-new residential center situated in a scenic, tree-lined environment with regular wildlife viewings, providing an inspiring and active backdrop to your day. This is a fully on-site position requiring the incumbent to work at the center either five 8 hour days or 4 10 hour days a week to provide continuous operational leadership. Because this center operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the incumbent must be highly adaptable and willing to adjust their schedule to ensure full facility coverage. Additionally, this position requires statewide travel with short notice to serve as an Agency Representative during critical emergency response operations. Candidates must be prepared to work under varying weather conditions during field deployments and move regularly across a multi-building residential center.

Special Requirements

Commercial Driver License – Provide evidence that a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement, or equivalent, has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Pre-employment Drug Test – Pass a urine drug test. In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver's license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test. Please note: Per California Code of Regulations 213.5, applicants who fail the drug test pursuant to section 213.4 (h), will be disqualified from the examination in which they are competing and, except as provided by section 213.5 (e), shall not be eligible to take any State civil service examination for a class for which drug testing is required until one year has elapsed from the date the drug test specimen is given.

Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).

Medical Exam – a medical clearance examination is required for this classification.

As the focal lead for the Corpsmember Development program at a brand-new center, the successful incumbent must possess strong programmatic vision and problem-solving skills to build workflows from the ground up. We are looking for an individual with an advanced aptitude for operational logistics and crisis management, capable of directing 24/7 facility coverage and deploying statewide as an Agency Representative at a moment's notice. A deep and genuine commitment to youth development and mentorship is vital, as this role requires navigating complex corpsmember dynamics, administering educational tracks, and fostering an inclusive, structured environment that empowers a diverse, young adult population.

Eligibility Information

1. List Eligibility – Successfully complete the civil service Conservationist 2 exam to be placed on the applicable eligibility list. Please refer to the exam bulletins for more detailed information.

2. Transfer Eligibility – Must have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above).

3. Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. If in a different classification, you must meet the minimum qualifications (see Minimum Qualifications section and associated links above.

4. Training & Development (T&D) Assignment – State employees in a permanent appointment, and no longer on probation, may be considered for a T&D assignment.
