Department 38134 Advocate Christ Medical Center - Doctors: Pediatric Cardiology Department 38134 Advocate Christ Medical Center - Doctors: Pediatric Cardiology Status Full time Benefits Eligible Yes Hours Per Week 36 Schedule Details/Additional Information 0.9 FTE Pediatric Cardiology Pay Range $38.20 - $57.30 Major Responsibilities Provides implant support (clinical/technology). 1)Performs both direct and indirect patient care for a select group of patients requiring specialized Pediatric cardiovascular pacemaker and implantable cardioverter/defibrillator (ICD) care. 2)Serves as a consultant to staff in the management of the Pediatric patient undergoing a cardiovascular pacemaker and ICD implant procedure. 3)Collaborates with physicians and supports demand matching of implants. 4)Communicates device advisories to patient/families. Coordinates appropriate follow-up clinical plan. Serves as a teaching resource/expert (education). 1)Identifies educational needs of staff based upon needs assessments, management, input, and direct observation. 2)Develops educational programs and tools for staff training, and to allow for the measurement of staff competency. 3)Educates staff on the care of pediatric patients with pacemakers and ICDs. 4)Meets own professional education needs and keeps up-to-date on devices. 5)Educates patients and families about the clinical diagnosis and management of disease process and devices follow up care and life style changes/adaptions. Develops and supports protocol for pacemakers/defibrillator service (clinical/practitioner). 1)Assures standards of care are in accordance with professional organization standards, and regulatory agencies, ie., Accrediting Organization, IDPH, OSHA, etc. 2)Reviews and recommends changes in departmental policies; revising policies and procedures in conjunction with new or changing theories, standards of practice, and current technology. 3)Participates in performance improvement activities. 4)Promotes patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiative. Implements and maintains 'PACE ART' Pediatric pacemaker and ICD database. 1)Gathers data, enters data and maintains the clinical database. 2)Prepares reports and correspondence and sends to the referring physicians. 3)Transmits telephonic device check information and enters into the database. 4)Provides reports and information for performance improvement, research and as requested by Program Director. Licensure: Nurse, Registered (RN) Education/Experience Required Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and certification in your current area of specialty within 2 years or 2,000 hours. 2 years experience in Pediatric cardiology, electrophysiology experience preferred. This position will need to recognize the needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of child, adolescent and adult behavior and aging. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Organizational planning and delegation skills. Team building skills. Communication and presentation skills. Proven leadership skills. Results oriented with concern for appropriate process. Proficiency in the operation and understanding of technical equipment. Strong PC skills, data management and report writing. CPR Certification / PALS certification Current licensure in State of Illinois, Registered Nurse. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to work under stressful conditions and in difficult situations. Ability to prioritize independently and respond to multiple simultaneous requests. May be exposed to hazardous materials and life threatening diseases. Ability to do light to medium lifting according to DOL Guidelines. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
