Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking a skilled Medical/Surgical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN) for a dynamic healthcare setting. This role requires a commitment to patient care in a variety of medical situations, including but not limited to the management of complex patient conditions.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a relevant nursing role
• Accepts first-time travelers and local candidates
• Expertise in medical-surgical nursing, telemetry remote monitoring, and utilization of a Rapid Response Team
• Proficient in the interpretation of dysrhythmias and management of various patient care protocols
• Experience in colostomy care, feeding tube management, blood product administration, and IV insulin protocols
• Capable of performing central line blood draws, peripheral line management, and phlebotomy
• Competent in starting IVs, PCA management, and handling chest tubes
• Knowledgeable in non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, and wound care
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification

Preferred Skills & Experience

• Experience in MS/Tele and telemetry on-unit monitoring
• Familiarity with accessing ports, insulin administration, and understanding of cerebrovascular accidents (CVA)
• Experience with surgical drains and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Trachesotomy management experience preferred
• Proficient in using electronic health record systems, specifically EPIC

Job Details

• Target nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-6
• 12-hour day shifts available; 36 or 48-hour work weeks accepted
• Contracts available from 13 to 26 weeks
• Contract staff may be assigned to high-demand teams and must report to work during catastrophic events or disasters
• Floating to different units may be required
• Weekend shifts of 12-16 hours may be required within the contract period

Typical patient diagnoses include, but are not limited to:

• Dementia
• Diabetes
• COVID-19
• Pneumonia
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
• Sepsis
• Encephalopathy
• Gastrointestinal bleed
• Anemia
• Hip fractures

Unit Details

Responsibilities will include working in an isolation area for COVID patients, with care provided across multiple levels, including step-down units managed by specialized staff.

Unit Systems

• Medication management through Pyxis
• Documentation using Epic
• Communication via SBAR method

Orientation & Training

• 24-hour unit orientation is required
• A comprehensive hospital orientation will take place during the first week; attendance in daily classes is mandatory.

Dress Code

Scrubs should be navy and white.

Certification Requirements

Must pass an EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
