POSITION OVERVIEW

JOB SUMMARY:

The Desktop Support Engineer / Local Service Provider (LSP) serves as the primary technology support resource for the Division of Continuing Education, the Behavior Lab, and the Office of Academic Advocacy and Graduation Success, while providing backup support for Enrollment Affairs, the Military & Veterans Resource Center, TRiO, Kugelman Honors and Persistence and Academic Success Services.
The position delivers end-user support for desktop computing, classroom technology, audiovisual systems, endpoint management, and department-specific applications. Responsibilities include diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, networking, and peripheral issues; coordinating technology deployments and repairs; maintaining technology assets; supporting technology projects; and serving as the primary liaison between supported departments and Information Technology Services (ITS). This position is responsible for supporting UWF Information Technology Services policies, managing the Active Directory and domain administration, generating technology specifications and purchasing quotes for systems and projects, providing reports on assets and departmental needs, and maintaining a current list of assets and their status.
The position also assists with technology planning, purchasing recommendations, user training, documentation, and lifecycle management of departmental technology resources, in addition to serving as the primary DisRep for the Division of Continuing Education.
The LSP must check in with their supervisor on a regular basis, at least weekly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Broad job knowledge typically obtained through professional entry-level certifications/credentials, advanced education or 1 year of work experience providing desktop or technical support in a professional environment.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

The position requires strong analytical, organizational, documentation, problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills. Incumbent must have:
Demonstrated knowledge of:
-Windows and macOS operating systems, including current and commonly supported versions.
-Desktop, laptop, tablet, printer, peripheral, and A/V hardware installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
-TCP/IP networking, Ethernet, wireless connectivity, VPN, DNS, DHCP, and client/server environments.
-Endpoint management technologies including Active Directory, Group Policy, Microsoft --Endpoint Manager/Intune (or equivalent), software deployment, and device management.
-Microsoft 365 applications and common productivity software.
-Information security principles and endpoint security best practices.
-Service management and ticketing systems.
Ability to:
-Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, operating system, networking, and peripheral issues.
-Configure, deploy, and maintain desktop computer systems and related technologies.
-Manage computer assets and maintain accurate documentation.
-Prioritize multiple support requests while providing excellent customer service.
-Explain technical concepts clearly to nontechnical users.
-Work independently while collaborating effectively with Information Technology Services (ITS) and departmental staff.
-Learn new technologies quickly and adapt to changing business needs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Requires good time management and organizational skills as the job may have little support from direct supervisors.
-Associate or bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
-One or more years of desktop support or endpoint engineering experience.
-Industry certifications such as:
CompTIA A+
Network+
Microsoft Certified
Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP)
-Experience supporting higher education environments.
-Experience supporting classroom technology and audio/visual systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:

• 45% - Provide primary desktop support for assigned departments. -Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, operating system, networking, and peripheral issues. -Configure, deploy, and maintain University-owned Windows and macOS computers. -Install and support approved software and endpoint management tools. -Maintain accurate documentation of incidents, requests, and resolutions within the ITS ticketing system. -Coordinate printer installation and repair. -Serve as the primary liaison among specialized system vendors and Information Technology Services (ITS) -Provide remote and after-hours support as needed. -Ensure endpoint compliance with University policies. - (Essential)
• 20% - Research, test, evaluate, recommend, and present information about new and existing technologies and products related to supported areas software and hardware. -Provide technical guidance and support to the immediate supervisor and other management staff. - (Essential)
