Payroll Specialist

Step into a high-impact payroll role at a well-established, rapidly growing company. This is a high-volume, multi-state payroll environment supporting a large employee population - built for someone who can hit the ground running, spot issues before they become problems, and use strong systems knowledge to drive process improvement rather than just process payroll. Key Responsibilities Process payroll accurately and on time across multiple U.S. states, in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Process off-cycle payroll runs as needed for outstanding items such as commissions. Prepare payroll through to the finalization stage, with a sharp eye for accuracy before handoff. Monitor and manage the payroll inbox - research and resolve inquiries directly or route to the appropriate party professionally and promptly. Own special projects such as PTO adjustments and payroll-related document management. Maintain accurate payroll transaction records, including tax records. Perform internal audits and help prepare materials for external audits. Identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements — this role has real room to shape how payroll runs. Partner cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and other departments to support broader organizational needs. Requirements Several years of high-volume, multi-state payroll experience. Experience with a major HRIS/payroll platform required. Strong Excel skills preferred; general comfort in Excel with an aptitude to learn will also be considered. Solid understanding of payroll compliance, tax, and wage law fundamentals. Excellent written and verbal communication skills — comfortable fielding employee inquiries with professionalism and warmth.
