Role Description This is a contract, on-site Onsite Desktop Support Engineer role based in Friday Harbor, WA. The Desktop Support Engineer will provide hands-on technical support for end users, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of desktops, laptops, peripherals, and approved software. Responsibilities include responding to support tickets, diagnosing hardware and software issues, performing break/fix activities, and coordinating with remote support teams and vendors when necessary. The role will also involve setting up new user workstations, managing user accounts and access requests, maintaining device inventory, and ensuring adherence to security and compliance standards. The engineer will document work performed, contribute to knowledge base articles, and deliver professional, customer-focused support in a dynamic, business-critical environment. Qualifications Strong desktop support skills, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows and macOS operating systems and standard productivity tools. Experience supporting hardware such as laptops, desktops, monitors, printers, and peripherals, including diagnostics and break/fix activities. Knowledge of basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Wi-Fi), VPN connectivity, and troubleshooting connectivity issues. Familiarity with user account management, password resets, and access control within environments such as Active Directory or similar identity tools. Ability to follow IT service management processes, including ticketing, incident documentation, and escalation procedures. Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in clear, accessible language. Capability to work independently on-site, manage priorities, and collaborate effectively with remote support and engineering teams. Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Microsoft certifications) or equivalent hands-on experience are preferred.
