Forensic Nurse Examiner

Mission Health in Asheville, NC seeks a Forensic Nurse Examiner to provide trauma-informed care and forensic evaluations to patients affected by sexual assault, intimate partner violence, and other trauma. The nurse will perform detailed assessments, collect and preserve forensic evidence, document findings, and collaborate with emergency department teams, law enforcement, and advocacy services. Responsibilities Perform forensic medical examinations for patients affected by sexual assault, domestic violence, and other trauma. Collect, document, and preserve forensic evidence following legal and clinical protocols. Provide compassionate, trauma-informed care, assessment, and treatment in collaboration with ED teams. Prepare detailed, accurate medical and forensic documentation and maintain chain of custody records. Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings as needed. Educate patients on follow-up care, resources, and victim advocacy services. Collaborate with law enforcement, social services, and advocacy organizations. Participate in on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 forensic response coverage. Maintain competency through ongoing education, certifications, and skills training. Support quality improvement and contribute to policy development for forensic services.
