Job Description SUMMARY The Compliance Officer / Compliance Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting Verida, Inc.'s mission to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) services across multiple jurisdictions. Verida is a national leader in the NEMT industry, partnering with state agencies, managed care organizations, and transportation providers to ensure members receive access to medically necessary transportation in accordance with contractual, statutory, and regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for both field-based and administrative compliance activities, including provider engagement, vehicle and driver inspections, documentation management, training facilitation, and coordination with internal compliance leadership. The role serves as a key liaison between Verida, its contracted transportation providers, and internal departments to promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous compliance improvement. The Compliance Officer / Compliance Coordinator supports day-to-day compliance operations by verifying provider credentials, maintaining accurate records, conducting inspections, facilitating required training, responding to inquiries and complaints, and assisting with investigations and corrective actions. The position requires flexibility, strong organizational skills, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment. Some evenings, weekends, and overnight travel may be required to meet contractual and operational needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provider Compliance & Documentation- Maintain regular contact with contracted transportation providers to obtain, verify, and maintain compliance documentation in accordance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
- Review and verify provider, vehicle, and driver documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Scan, upload, and maintain compliance records within Verida systems, including InSight and Eclipse, in a timely and accurate manner.
- Perform detailed recordkeeping and electronic filing of inspection reports, observation forms, training records, photographs, and related compliance documentation.
- Ensure all received documentation is entered into compliance systems promptly and in accordance with internal standards.
- Conduct vehicle inspections to assess compliance with applicable federal, state, and contractual safety requirements, including lights, brakes, tires, signals, exhaust systems, warning devices, and general vehicle condition.
- Review driver credentials, logs, permits, licenses, and hours-of-service documentation, as applicable.
- Identify and document safety or compliance deficiencies and, when required, declare vehicles or drivers out-of-service in accordance with governing regulations and contracts.
- Review upcoming and expiring inspections and assist with statewide inspection coordination and scheduling.
- Perform random inspections on providers, in the field, to observe driver conduct, passenger assistance and adherence to safety procedures.
- Follow all Verida policies, procedures, and code of conduct requirements.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- This position will require travel through the District of Columbia and surrounding areas
- Be available to address urgent compliance, fleet, or training issues after hours or on weekends, as needed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned to support compliance and operational objectives.
- Strong organizational, time management, and follow-up skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact professionally with providers, drivers, and internal stakeholders.
- High level of interpersonal skills and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Ability to work independently in the field and collaboratively as part of a compliance team.
- Ability to manage time effectively and work independently.
- Sound judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Professional appearance, positive attitude, and flexibility with work schedule, including evenings and weekends when required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in customer service, compliance coordination, transportation, safety, or a related field.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals, and contractual requirements.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups.
- Ability to obtain the following certifications within designated timeframes, as required by the role:
- Certified Passenger Assistance Safety and Sensitivity (PASS) Instructor
- Basic First Aid and CPR Instructor
- Certified Defensive Driving Instructor
- Clean motor vehicle record, drug screen and background check as defined by governing contracts.
- Ability to travel frequently, including overnight travel, and work extended hours when business needs require.
- Must reside in Northern Virgina, the District of Columbia or Maryland.
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience in compliance, fleet management, safety, or training.
- Prior experience in the Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT), paratransit, or passenger transportation industry.
- Background in Emergency Medical Services (EMS), including experience as an EMT, paramedic, dispatcher, or EMS operations support, is preferred.
- At least one (1) year of training or instructional experience in classroom and/or hands-on environments.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required to perform inspections and field activities.
- Ability to lift and/or move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time and perform other physical activities necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
