Job Summary

The Driver Trainee participates in the CDL Advancement Program, a structured internal development program designed to prepare employees for a qualified driver position. This role is intended for employees who currently hold a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) but have limited practical driving experience.

The trainee will complete a combination of classroom, in-truck, and on-the-job training to develop the knowledge, skills, and competencies required to safely and independently operate company vehicles while meeting all company and regulatory standards.

Upon successful completion of the CDL Advancement Program, trainees will be eligible for reclassification into a qualified driver position.

Participation in the program does not guarantee advancement. The company reserves the right to remove participants from the program based on performance, safety incidents, or failure to meet program requirements.

Responsibilities

• Participate in all scheduled training sessions, including classroom and on-road instruction
• Learn and follow all traffic laws, safety regulations, and company policies
• Practice vehicle operation under supervision, including maneuvering, parking, and route navigation
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
• Maintain accurate logs and training records
• Demonstrate consistent progress through training milestones
• Communicate effectively with trainers, supervisors, and team members
• Successfully complete all required training components, including the final road test
• Maintain a strong safety record throughout the program
• Meet all performance and attendance expectations

• Minimum age 23
• Minimum of one (1) year of employment with our company
• Valid class A or B CDL license with hazmat and tanker endorsements, a good driving record, and a good understanding of DOT regulations
• Valid DOT Medical Card
• Able to pass a DOT Drug Screening
• Able to pass background screening including MVR and criminal
• Strong willingness to learn and follow instructions
• Ability to work well under pressure in a team environment and get along with others
• Able to read, speak, write, and communicate using the English language well enough to perform the job functions
• Strong customer service skills, and the ability to effectively prioritize, multi-task, manage time, organize, and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment

Working Conditions

• Required to work nights, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
• Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
• Periods of extended driving and physical activity (climbing, lifting, securing loads)
• Temporary assignment to a Driver Trainer during the training period (in-cab training environment)
