Athletic Trainer

Msgr Edward Pace High School, in Miami Gardens, Florida, is hiring an Athletic Trainer .S/he is responsible for managing the daily operations of the athletic training room. This includes overseeing injury prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation for all athletes involved in the school’s athletic program. As a key part of the athletics department, the Athletic Trainer ensures compliance with medical and safety standards, in conjunction with the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami and the FHSAA, while providing on-site services for competitions and practices, as warranted and requested. The candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Archdiocese of Miami. Responsibilities include: Evaluate and provide care for athletics-related injuries and medical conditions. Provide medical coverage for school-sponsored competitions and practices, as assigned. Administer emergency care, evaluation, and treatment including but not limited to, first aid, taping, bracing, and similar services, making appropriate referrals to medical professionals as needed. Design and implement individual rehabilitation programs for injured athletes, in coordination with the coach(es) and appropriate medical professionals. Ensure compliance with school, Archdiocesan, and FHSAA polices and regulations. Maintain and assist in the development of emergency action plans for all practice and competition venues in accordance with school risk management guidelines and state regulations. Follow all department guidelines, policies and procedures in accordance with the state/ national best practices and consensus statements. Assist with the maintenance, inventory, and proper usage of athletic training equipment and supplies and ordering process. Attend all meetings, trainings, and events required by the Athletic Director. Maintain accurate records of injury and treatments and eligibility of all athletes via PRIVIT. Communicate the injury status of athletes with Sports Medicine Coordinator/Head Athletic Trainer, physicians and coaching staff. Assist in appropriate physician referrals and appointments. Assist Head Athletic Trainer with overseeing and managing the Athletic Training Student Aides. Help monitor weather conditions and dangerous environments such as WBGT and Lightning. Responsible for the implementation of health and safety regulations. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field from a CAATE accredited College or University (Required). Master’s in athletic training or related field (Preferred). Maintain current certification as an Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC) as well as a State of Florida athletic training licensure. Must possess and maintain a valid BLS/Healthcare provider Certification. Thorough knowledge of state athletic training regulations. Knowledge of concussion management protocols and current trends based on best practices. Strong knowledge of athletic training and how to treat athletics-related injuries and medical conditions. 1 year or more of experience preferred. (new grads are welcome) Ability to form and maintain positive relationships with multiple stakeholders (e.g. students, parents, etc). Strong understanding of athletics, athletic administration, and applicable Archdiocesan policies, FHSAA policies, and civil laws. Ability to utilize information technology (e.g. email, cell phone, etc.). Ability to work successfully with the school athletics department. Ability to positively manage conflicts. Ability to understand and serve diverse populations. Strong oral and written English-language communication skills, including clear speaking voice. Spanish/creole-language ability may be preferred. Possesses integrity, diligence, and dedication to the Catholic educational mission of the school. Understanding and appreciation of the school's Catholic mission and philosophy of athletics. Must complete the Child Protection requirements of the archdiocese. Must be able to work afternoons, evenings, and weekends, as negotiated with supervisor. Ability to provide medical treatment to student-athletes (e.g. first aid, taping, bracing, etc.). A valid Florida driver's license with the ability to travel to/from athletic events.
