Senior Materials EngineerThe Materials and Process Engineering Department, which functions within Mechanical Engineering, is looking for a Materials Engineer to join our Design and Development team in Andover, MA. This role is to support program hardware design and development and production activities. A qualified candidate will have a background and experience in evaluating materials and processes used within a product design and/or manufacturing. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to support material selections during design, development, and manufacturing of hardware, and support failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. The role will involve evaluation of a variety of materials and validation and verification that materials and processes used on product meet design and program requirements. Tasks will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures and documentation of results. Collaboration with design engineers, manufacturing engineers, subject matter experts, and suppliers is required. A candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of simultaneous tasks within set schedule requirements.What You Will Do:Evaluation of materials and processes based on conformance to specifications and design and performance requirementsWorking closely with design personnel in the selection and approval of materials and finishes in new and updated designsSupporting product production and supplier support activitiesProviding evaluation and resolution to technical, operational, and supplier problems related to materials and processesParticipate in analysis and documentation of technical positions for alternate materials, obsolescence, and failure analysisEnsure labor costs and estimated completion schedules provided by the Materials and Process Engineering Sections are negotiated, understood, and meet product/program commitmentsQualifications You Must Have:Typically requires a Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Science and Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 9+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experienceExperience in materials selection (i.e. qualification, analysis, testing, design or development)Qualifications We Prefer:Experience working on programs, projects, or products associated with the Defense IndustryExperience working with engineering drawingsExperience working with and evaluation of suppliers performing special manufacturing processesExperience with mechanical and/or chemical analysis methods and characterization techniquesExperience related to Material Review Boards, Material and Process Change Boards, Risk Boards, and Engineering Review BoardsExperience with project milestones such as preliminary design reviews and critical design reviewsEarned Valued certification or experienceAbility to write concise technical reports summarizing analysesDemonstrated ability to lead and complete scientific based projects including failure analysis and obsolescence investigationsProficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skillsABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.What We Offer:Our values drive our actions, behaviors, and performance with a vision for a safer, more connected world. Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.The salary range for this role is 82,000 USD - 164,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
