Clinical Laboratory Scientist

Job Overview Schedule: Full time Evening 3:00PM-11:00PM Monday-Friday Facility: Resurrection Medical Center Location: 7435 W Talcott Ave, Chicago, IL 60631 Responsibilities Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA as listed under CFR 42 CFR 493.1425, 493.1495, 493.1463. Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results. Follow laboratory quality control policies, documenting all corrective actions when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and correct or notify supervisor, Director, or Medical Director. Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and any other discipline introduced to the laboratory. Perform and document maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed) on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Review accuracy of patient results prior to release or reporting. Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics. Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and report results to appropriate agencies. Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics (as required). Assist in development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures. Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources. In absence of a supervisor, assign/identify as Lead Tech and assume responsibility for the section or department during the shift. Perform tasks or responsibilities related to LIS and/or POC as assigned. Other duties may be assigned by the department manager or director. Qualifications ASCP certification or equivalent preferred. Minimum two years of hospital laboratory work experience. Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423). Current and valid state license if required by the state where the laboratory is located.
