Job Overview

• Salary/Pay Rate: $24.00 – $28.00 per hour (Based on Skills, Experience, Attitude & Performance)
• Job/Employment Type: Full-Time
• Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Some Weekends, Overtime & Periodic 24-Hour On-Call Service

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Commercial HVAC Service Technician to perform planned maintenance, advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs across residential and commercial HVAC systems. This is a senior-level field position for a technician who is comfortable working beyond traditional split systems. You'll service and diagnose commercial packaged equipment, pumps, air- and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, VAV and constant-volume systems, VFDs, economizers, energy recovery units, exhaust systems, and HVAC controls.

You'll also work extensively with control systems and are expected to develop a detailed understanding of Carrier, Honeywell, and Trane controls, including system operation and diagnostics. We're looking for a technician who combines strong technical capabilities with professionalism, accurate documentation, efficient field performance, and excellent customer service.

How You Will Make an Impact

• Commercial HVAC Service & Diagnostics
• Perform planned maintenance on residential and commercial split and packaged HVAC systems
• Diagnose and repair HVAC equipment and components
• Troubleshoot customer comfort and system-performance issues
• Service and repair pumps, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, cooling towers, VAV systems, and constant-volume systems
• Diagnose and service VFDs, fire dampers, exhaust fans, economizers, and energy recovery units
• Service HVAC accessories including zone systems, humidifiers, dehumidifiers, UV lights, and specialized air filtration systems
• Apply electrical and refrigeration principles to diagnose system failures
• Safely operate HVAC diagnostic equipment, testing devices, hand tools, and power tools
• Complete necessary repairs accurately and efficiently
• HVAC Controls
• Diagnose HVAC control-system issues and understand system sequence and operation
• Develop and maintain detailed working knowledge of Carrier, Honeywell, and Trane control systems
• Troubleshoot controls associated with commercial HVAC equipment and building comfort systems
• Identify whether equipment, electrical, refrigeration, or control-related issues are contributing to system failures
• Field Service & Customer Support
• Provide professional service at customer locations
• Develop strong relationships with customers through clear communication and dependable service
• Explain identified system issues and appropriate repair recommendations
• Select appropriate diagnostic and repair charges from the company's flat-rate pricing system or time-and-material pricing in accordance with company policy
• Identify appropriate HVAC equipment replacement opportunities and refer qualified leads to the Comfort Consultant
• Discuss planned maintenance agreements with customers when appropriate
• Help retain and renew existing prepaid maintenance agreements
• Service Efficiency & Documentation
• Complete service paperwork clearly, accurately, and on time
• Accurately document labor hours, materials, repairs, and applicable revenue
• Notify the Service Coordinator immediately when an assigned project or repair is falling behind expected repair times
• Maintain productivity while completing assigned service calls to company standards
• Minimize unnecessary callbacks by diagnosing and repairing systems correctly
• Follow company procedures for warranty-related service
• Vehicle, Tools & Inventory
• Maintain a clean and organized company service vehicle and work area
• Maintain appropriate truck stock through the company's inventory restocking program
• Ensure necessary parts and commonly used materials are available for service calls
• Properly maintain company equipment, tools, and vehicle
• Purchase and maintain required personal hand tools
• Use tools and diagnostic equipment safely and responsibly
• Training & Professional Development
• Participate in required technical training, seminars, and classes
• Attend manufacturer, utility, industry-association, and in-house training programs
• Continue developing technical knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment, refrigeration, electrical systems, and controls
• Stay current with equipment changes and service procedures

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and advanced HVAC troubleshooting abilities
• Experience performing commercial HVAC service, maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs
• Working knowledge of residential and commercial split and packaged HVAC systems
• Knowledge of commercial HVAC equipment and system operation
• Working knowledge of electrical and refrigeration principles
• Ability to use HVAC service tools, meters, testing devices, hand tools, and power tools safely
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot HVAC controls
• Ability to follow technical and operational instructions
• Strong customer service and communication skills
• Ability to complete service documentation clearly, accurately, and promptly
• Valid driver's license
• EPA Certification – Required
• NATE Certification – Required
• Technical School Diploma
• Ability to participate in periodic 24-hour on-call service
• Availability for overtime and occasional weekend work, particularly during peak seasons

Compensation & Benefits

• $24.00 – $28.00 per hour, based on skills, experience, attitude, and performance

Who Will Succeed in This Role?

This position is best suited for an experienced HVAC technician who is comfortable tackling complex commercial systems rather than simply replacing parts or performing basic maintenance. You'll need to understand how mechanical, refrigeration, electrical, and control systems interact and be able to systematically diagnose problems in the field.

Just as importantly, you'll need to be dependable and organized. Successful technicians understand that completing the repair is only part of the job—accurate documentation, customer communication, truck organization, inventory management, and timely completion all contribute to a successful service operation.
