People for Housing OC was founded in 2017 as Orange County's YIMBY (Yes In My Backyard)
organization, advocating for housing solutions that increase affordability, accessibility, and
opportunity throughout Orange County. The organization works to advance housing production,
community education, advocacy, and coalition-building efforts that support diverse housing options
for residents. People for Housing OC is a fiscally sponsored project of OneOC, which provides
administrative support services including human resources, payroll, accounting, and operational
infrastructure. WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS: California is facing a housing affordability crisis, and Orange County is at the center of it.
People for Housing OC is a grassroots advocacy organization working to increase housing
opportunities through education, community engagement, and advocacy. We believe housing is a
nonpartisan issue and are seeking someone who shares that commitment. This role blends policy advocacy to advance housing opportunities in Orange County with the outward
facing coalition building needed to help community members engage in the most important public
policy issues facing our region the housing affordability crisis. ABOUT THE POSITION:
This is a public-facing, full-time position that blends community outreach, public policy analysis,
housing advocacy, education, and communications. The Housing Policy Analyst will provide support
on a several housing policy initiatives currently underway using both qualitative and quantitative
skills. Given the small-team, this person will have the opportunity to build relationships with
urbanists, advocates, elected officials, community-based organizations (CBOs), housing developers,
and other stakeholders with diverse perspectives with the goal of advancing our shared goals of
increasing housing opportunities and housing access throughout Orange County. This role operates in an evolving environment where not all processes are fully defined. Success
requires adaptability, sound judgment, and the ability to adjust as priorities and systems evolve.
The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating ambiguity and contributing to the continued growth
and development of the organization's advocacy and community engagement efforts.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Develop content and present trainings on housing advocacy for residents, community-based organizations (CBOs), health systems, and other nonprofit partners.
• Attend meetings, roundtables, working groups, and public hearings to deliver public comment and
represent the organization.
• Build and maintain relationships with housing advocates, community members, elected officials,
and partner organizations.
• Help recruit and organize supporters for campaigns and advocacy actions.
• Create and manage content across social media platforms (Instagram, TikTok, and others).
• Prepare presentations, talking points, and materials for community outreach.
• Research Orange County cities housing policies and practices and identify changes that could contribute to increased housing production and improved opportunities for Orange County residents.
• Compile data and research housing production (current and anticipated) and zoned capacity in Orange County.
• Collaborate with a small staff team on priorities as they evolve in real time.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of project and organizational goals.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Comfortable delivering public comment at public hearings.
• Ability to work with people across the political spectrum.
• Experience managing social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and scheduling tools.
• Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience organizing people around a cause, issue, campaign, or community initiative.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and proof of automobile insurance.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: • Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, or other multilingual language skills.
• Video editing skills.
• Experience with Canva, Zoom, Hootsuite, Linktree, or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT or Claude.
• Knowledge of Orange County's political and housing landscape.
• Participation in YIMBY, Abundance Movement, or similar housing advocacy initiatives.
• Residency in Orange County. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: • Minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience, either paid or volunteer, in one or more of the following areas:
• Housing, real estate development, or land use/entitlements.
• Public policy, political campaigns, or policy advocacy.
• Nonprofit or NGO work.
• Community organizing around a mission, issue, or cause.
• Multiple internships totaling one (1) year of relevant experience may be considered.
• A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred; however, additional relevant experience may be substituted for formal education. SCHEDULE & WORKING CONDITIONS • Full-time position (40 hours per week); Overtime is not typical and must be approved in advance by the supervisor.
• Primarily on-site in Orange County, including the Fullerton office and attendance at meetings, hearings, trainings, workshops, and community events throughout Orange County.
• Some evenings and weekends are required for public hearings, advocacy activities, and community events.
• Requires flexibility to adjust work schedules to meet organizational and project needs.
• Regularly uses computers and standard office equipment; sits, stands, walks, and communicates in person, by telephone, and through virtual meeting platforms.
• May be required to lift and carry materials up to 25 pounds and assist with event setup and breakdown.
• Requires the ability to travel throughout Orange County and maintain effective communication in individual and group settings.
• Utilizes critical thinking, sound judgment, problem-solving, and organizational skills to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and respond effectively to changing circumstances.
• Performs work in typical office, community, and public meeting environments with varying noise levels and group size.
• Track advocacy opportunities across Orange County cities and help coordinate organizational response OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS: • Business casual dress and appearance while on video conference calls and in person meetings.
• Attends meetings and trainings as requested.
• Drives personal car on business; maintains driving record and personal car insurance in accordance with organization’s policies and provides related records periodically.

• $28.00–$35.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
