Lab Tech

Primary Responsibilities / Accountabilities / Essential Functions Perform a variety of administrative tasks including preparation of PowerPoint presentations, data entry and analysis, web site development, collating marketing materials and presentations. Facilitate projects. May supervise set up of labs, either in physical sciences or computer sciences. Assist a faculty member with a research project; engage in literature searches. Configuration and management of servers used in the delivery of distance courses; assisting faculty in the development of new material for their courses. Responsible for planning and organizing the activities of an assigned program, project, unit or function and ensuring the activities’ infrastructure is in place. Review departmental needs and expectations and determine the most effective means of execution of specific duties to ensure goals are met in a timely fashion. Develop and schedule program work plans in accordance with specifications and funding limitations; oversee daily operations and coordinate activities of programs and determine priorities. Partner and collaborate with various internal contacts, or customers, to coordinate activities, promote and encourage cooperation of submission or collection of information/data, products or services or process improvement. Manage the flow of activities and act as liaison to all others involved in the operation. Other duties as assigned. Equipment Used and Responsibility MS Office Suite Supervisory Responsibilities May mentor students and student workers. Requirements Be admitted to a graduate degree‑seeking program at GCU. (Certificate only programs do not satisfy this requirement.) Have a minimum GPA of 3.0. (If a student is newly admitted to the University, the admission GPA is considered for this requirement.) A student must also maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 during their employment. Be enrolled in a “regular” (not provisional) degree‑seeking student for at least 6 graduate‑level units leading to the degree. (Undergraduate or audited courses do not satisfy this requirement.) Hiring departments may require a higher enrollment. Assistantships may be revoked at any time duties are not fulfilled satisfactorily. Because of the role as student and employee, graduate assistants assume responsibility for upholding the University’s Student Code of Conduct. Graduate Assistants are eligible for a tuition waiver for the period employed. Waiver of tuition may be taxable income. Graduate Assistants must follow the HR employment workflow processes and pre‑employment background checks. Graduate Assistants have restricted work hours (maximum of 29 hours per week). After all degree requirements for the planned program of study are met, a student is no longer eligible to receive a graduate assistantship. “Incomplete” grades must be removed during the period following the teaching period in which the “I” was recorded in order to continue the assistantship. Graduate Assistants are part‑time employees and are not eligible for GCU’s employment benefits, except those stipulated by law.
