Nursing Support Assistant (CNA)With the leadership of the Manager and the Clinical Supervisor, the Nursing Support Assistant performs assigned supportive work in connection with the delivery of patient care, including functional tasks and skills. The Nursing Support Assistant will utilize interactive processes which will exceed the expectation of patients, physicians, families, or significant others, provides high quality, cost effective care and treatment. They will demonstrate necessary skills and knowledge to provide care for patients according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patients served. Additionally, they will perform activities which support the daily functions and operations of a patient care unit and the healthcare team, and provide constant observation and documentation of activity of assigned patient. Works under the direction of the Registered Nurse in the assigned area.Essential Job FunctionsProvides basic patient care activities including vital signs, enemas and basic tests such as glucoscan, hemacult and multistixAssists patients with activities of daily living, as appropriate/assigned, using proper aseptic, isolation, and infection control techniques in performance of dutiesAssists patients with personal hygiene, ambulation and nourishment/fluidsCompletes procedures as assigned, such as collecting patient specimens and weighing patients.Assists with discharge and transfer preparation of patientsAssists in the maintenance of the patient environment: makes patient beds, tidies patient room, and prepares patient room for admission and transferAssists with the maintenance of supplies/equipment and the environment.Communicates and accurately documents activities onto the proper records or logsInitiates CPR and calls a Dr. CartPerforms receptionist duties for assigned area as requestedRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalentMust be listed on the IDPH Health Care Worker Registry (HCWR) as an Illinois CNA OR a nursing student who has passed the written competency exam and is listed on the HCWR.CPR/BLS CertificationAbility to read and write, perform simple mathematical calculations, follow oral and written instructions, perform variety of tasks without direct supervision and perform duties requiring continuous physical effortAbility to effectively communicate verbally and/or in written formAbility to work in partnership with management and staffOccasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.Moderate to extreme physical effort such as walking, standing, performing CPR, and lifting materials, equipment, objects and/or patients may be requiredVision, hearing, and sense of touch must be adequate to enable one to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communicationFrequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory inputsPosition DetailsJob Type/FTE: Registry (PRN) 0.1 FTEShift: Days – 7:00am - 7:30pmWork Location: Onsite - Hyde ParkUnit/Department: 3N OB Newborn AntepartumCBA Code: 743SM
