Nocturnist

What you will do

• Provide and manage direct inpatient care, including histories, physical examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, treatments, and procedures consistent with core privileges outlined by Methodist Healthcare Medical Staff policy.
• Order, perform, and interpret examinations and tests; analyze records and diagnoses to determine patient conditions.
• Coordinate care with nurses, pharmacists, social workers, case managers, and other health‑care team members.
• Provide leadership and training in education for graduate medical and other approved educational programs; function as the hospital’s attending physician for educational programs.
• Complete medical and billing records accurately and in a timely manner.
• Participate in utilization management, risk management, and performance improvement programs.
• Support Methodist Information Technology and Electronic Health Record meaningful use through active use, constructive feedback, and collaboration on improvements.
• Collaborate with Site Directors in medical education curriculum planning and learning activities.
• Serve as counsel to Site Directors regarding medical education and research matters.
• Serve as liaison between Methodist learners, nursing, clinics, and residents.

Education and Formal Training Requirements

• Required: MD/DO (medical license in Tennessee, licensed by the Tennessee State Board of Medical Examiners).
• Required: Board certified physician (American Board of Medical Specialties).
• Preferred: MD licensed in Mississippi (Mississippi State Board of Medical Licensure).
• Preferred: MD licensed in Arkansas (Arkansas State Medical Board).
• Preferred: DO licensed in Tennessee (Tennessee Board of Osteopathic Examination).
• Preferred: Board certified DO (National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners, NBOME).
• Preferred: AOA board certified physician‑specialty (American Osteopathic Association).
• Preferred: No prior work experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for delivery of medical care.
• Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
• Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and students.
• Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.
• Ability to use electronic health records, the Methodist OneChart system, and CPOE.
• Ability to communicate with patients, families, students, residents, and other health‑care team members.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to understand and analyze clinical and research data.
• Ability to organize and coordinate multiple tasks and projects.

Physical Demands

Climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, repetitive motion; exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently; close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision; frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact; exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials; ability to react quickly to emergency situations.

Supervision Provided by this Position

Supervises residents, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and students from multiple disciplines.
