About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse - Telemetry Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical/Telemetry Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Days Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum of 2 years of acute care RN experience, first-time travelers accepted with required experience License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Traveler must PASS an EKG competency exam prior to arrival. Skills in wound management, JP drains, wound vacs, hemodialysis catheter care, fistulas, PCA, and pain management are required. Description: This is a brand new Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit for a growing facility. There are many educational opportunities available to travelers. Patient types include sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and pneumonia. Occasionally, the unit will handle post-operative overflow for total joints (knees, hips, shoulders) and GI/abdominal surgeries (hemicolectomies, bowel resections, etc.). Patient ratios are RN 1:5-6 during the day and 1:6 at night, with 2 CNAs per shift unless census does not require it. Support on the unit includes a typically free-floating charge nurse, a hospital unit coordinator/secretary during the day shift, in-house phlebotomy, RN draw for CVL/PICC/midline, and IV/VAT team available from 7am to 3pm for PICC placement. Respiratory therapy and a hospitalist are available on the unit for most patients. The charting system uses EMR: Meditech Expanse, IV pumps: Alaris, and medication dispensing: Pyxis. Travelers may float to any Medical Surgical area within the facility. Scheduling requires a weekend rotation every other week. The schedule consists of working 4 days one week and 3 days the next week, which is mandatory. Travelers are expected to work 2 out of 3 holidays during the contract period. Scrub color is pewter, with t-shirts in gray, white, or black featuring a specific monogram. Jackets must be in gray or black, and badges must be worn above the waist and in full view at all times.
