Marketing Communications Intern

POSITION TITLE:Marketing & Communications Intern REPORTS TO:Marketing & Communications Specialist DURATION:Fall Internship - Ten Weeks Summary/Objective The Marketing & Communications Fall Intern supports the Pottstown Regional Community Foundation’s efforts to share clear information, strengthen digital engagement, promote community-facing work, and communicate the Foundation’s impact across public channels. This ten-week internship is designed for a student or early-career professional interested in gaining hands‑on experience in nonprofit marketing and communications. The role will focus primarily on writing, social media and digital engagement, basic graphic creation, and email communications, with additional opportunities to support event marketing, photography, analytics, market research, brand voice development, and broader Marketing & Communications strategy projects. This internship is structured to provide meaningful project experience within a flexible part‑time fall schedule of approximately 15 hours per week. Primary Responsibilities Draft, edit, and proofread short and long‑form written content, including blog posts, program highlights, community stories, grantee features, event recaps, newsletter copy, social media content, campaign materials, and other public‑facing communications. Translate program updates, grantmaking activity, event information, donor communications, and community impact into clear, accessible language for residents, donors, grantees, partners, and other audiences. Gather and organize information through background research, internal collaboration, review of existing materials, and light interviews when appropriate. Support PRCF’s social media presence by drafting, scheduling, and organizing content across platforms using Hootsuite or other approved tools. Maintain content calendars and help ensure that social media, email, and campaign communications are timely, coordinated, and aligned with PRCF’s voice and priorities. Create captions, post copy, hashtags, campaign language, and basic graphics for social media and digital communications using Canva, Adobe tools, or other approved platforms. Assist with email communications by building and formatting newsletters, announcements, campaign messages, and event‑related emails in Mailchimp. Gather, adapt, and organize content from internal departments, programs, partners, and existing materials to support coordinated email, social media, and website communications. Help maintain consistent voice, tone, formatting, accessibility, and visual presentation across PRCF’s communications channels. Organize communications assets, including templates, graphics, captions, photo files, reusable copy, campaign materials, email archives, and content libraries. Support event marketing when schedule and availability allow, including event promotion, communications materials, photography, content capture, follow‑up messaging, and basic participation tracking. Assist with basic analytics and reporting across social media, email, website, and event communications, including gathering data for staff updates, committee reports, campaign summaries, and future planning. Conduct light market research, peer foundation research, audience research, or content audits alongside PRCF staff or vendors. Support vendor‑related and strategy projects by gathering materials, organizing notes, preparing background information, reviewing draft deliverables, and assisting with content planning or workflow documentation. Contribute to projects that strengthen PRCF’s brand voice, public‑facing language, storytelling, digital engagement, reporting systems, and overall Marketing & Communications capacity. Supervisory Responsibility None Education and Experience: College enrollment or recent coursework in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, English, Graphic Design, Nonprofit Management, or a related field preferred, but not required. This is a temporary part‑time fall internship averaging approximately 15 hours per week over a ten‑week period. The position is at least one substantial in‑office day per week to support collaboration, training, and hands‑on experience, with limited flexibility for remote work depending on project needs and scheduling. Hours may vary occasionally based on event support, meetings, communications deadlines, or organizational activities. The role routinely uses standard office equipment and digital communication tools, including computers, phones, printers/copiers, email platforms, and social media or content management systems. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be required to successfully perform the responsibilities of this internship. While performing the duties of this role, the intern is regularly required to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. The position may occasionally require standing or walking for extended periods during community events or organizational activities. The intern may occasionally lift or move materials up to 25 pounds. Some flexibility in scheduling may be needed to support occasional events, meetings, or communications‑related activities. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a temporary part‑time fall internship averaging approximately 15 hours per week over a ten‑week period. Weekly scheduling is flexible and will be coordinated with the intern’s availability and organizational needs. Occasional evening or event‑related hours may be requested to support Foundation activities, meetings, or community events. Travel This internship may occasionally require local travel for community events, learning opportunities, or Foundation‑related activities. Required Skills/Abilities Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with an interest in developing professional communications experience. Interest in nonprofit communications, marketing, journalism, public relations, design, community engagement, philanthropy, or related fields. Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple assignments in a collaborative environment. Willingness to ask questions, receive feedback, revise work, and learn new tools and processes. Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with staff, partners, and community members. Familiarity with Canva, Mailchimp, Hootsuite, WordPress, Elementor, Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar tools is helpful, but not required. Interest in storytelling, community impact, donor engagement, grantmaking, or nonprofit communications.
