Wonderful College Prep Academy (WCPA) is a free, public charter network in California’s Central Valley committed to providing a world-class education for all students. Founded in 2009 by Lynda and Stewart Resnick, co-owners of The Wonderful Company, WCPA offers two free state-of-the-art TK–12 public charter schools serving 2,400 students in Lost Hills and Delano, California.

Job Description

Wonderful College Prep Academy is accepting applications for part-time tutor positions in the GEAR UP program at Sanger High School. GEAR UP Tutors will follow the student cohorts through their high school years. Assignments will be approximately 24 hours per week during lunch periods, and/or during class times (mornings and/or afternoons). Workdays will align with the Sanger Unified School District and Wonderful College Prep Academy calendars. This position will report to the GEAR UP Coordinator in Sanger, CA. This is an in-person position. Subject Focus: Math

The GEAR UP Tutor’s responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

• Provide 1:1 or small-group tutoring services to students in classrooms.
• Collaborate with and provide support for GEAR UP staff.
• Work directly with students to provide academic support services (e.g., tutoring; help completing forms; workshop support).
• Assist in the planning, organizing, and implementing GEAR UP grant activities.
• Follow school and GEAR UP protocols and procedures.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 

• Monday: 8:00 am-4:30 pm (8 hours)
• Wednesday: 8:00 am-4:30 pm (8 hours)
• Friday: 8:00 am-4:30 pm (8 hours)

ABOUT THE GEAR UP GRANT : GEAR UP is a federally funded Title III Grant. Wonderful College Prep Academy, in partnership with Avenal and Sanger Unified School Districts, will work with 6th and 7th-grade students from four middle schools to prepare them for college. This discretionary grant program is designed to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education. GEAR UP provides seven-year grants to states and partnerships to provide services at high-poverty middle and high schools. GEAR UP grantees serve an entire cohort of students beginning no later than the seventh grade and follow the cohort through high school and their first year of college.

Qualifications

• College graduate or be enrolled in college and have completed freshman English, college math (Algebra II).
• At least one year of tutoring experience.
• An eager, flexible learner and problem solver who feels comfortable taking initiative.
• A self-starter with exceptional work ethic and the ability to work well away from colleagues and management.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
• An ability to quickly establish rapport and communicate well with scholars.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.

Pay: $18.00/hour
