Plumber

This role focuses on the installation, layout, and finishing of plumbing systems for large-scale residential construction projects. You will install and connect PEX, PVC, copper, and gas piping systems, perform both rough and finish plumbing, and ensure all plumbing lines meet code and project specifications. The position requires a seasoned plumbing mechanic who can work independently from blueprints and contribute to high-quality, long-lasting installations on multi-unit projects.

Responsibilities

• Install and assemble plumbing systems including PEX, PVC, copper, and gas lines for new construction projects.
• Perform rough-in plumbing for plumbing lines, gas lines, sanitary lines, shower lines, and drain lines in a multi-unit residential building.
• Lay out and install PVC systems for drains, showers, sinks, bathtubs, and other fixtures according to project plans.
• Complete finish plumbing work, including setting fixtures and final connections for showers, sinks, bathtubs, and related equipment.
• Fit and secure pipes using appropriate pipefitting techniques, ensuring proper alignment, support, and sealing.
• Interpret and work from blueprints and plumbing designs to plan and execute plumbing system installations.
• Perform brazing and soldering on copper piping and related components as required by the project.
• Verify that all plumbing installations comply with applicable codes, standards, and project specifications.
• Collaborate with other trades on-site to coordinate installation schedules and resolve layout or design conflicts.
• Maintain and use personal tools and equipment safely and effectively, including all required PPE, on a daily basis.
• Arrive on site before the scheduled start time to attend orientations, receive daily instructions, and prepare for the workday.
• Work safely in an active construction environment, following OSHA and site safety guidelines at all times.

• At least 10 years of experience as a plumbing mechanic.
• Strong hands-on experience with plumbing installation, including PEX, PVC, and copper pipe systems.
• Proficiency in installing and working with gas lines and sanitary lines.
• Demonstrated ability to perform both rough and finish plumbing in residential or commercial settings.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and plumbing system designs accurately.
• Skilled in brazing and soldering copper piping.
• Experience with PVC layout and installation for drains, showers, sinks, and bathtubs.
• Proficient in pipefitting techniques, including fitting, cutting, and securing pipes.
• OSHA 10 certification preferred, or the ability and commitment to obtain OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 within required timeframes.
• Capability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions throughout the year.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality, with the ability to arrive early for orientation and site preparation.

• Previous experience with large-scale residential or commercial plumbing projects.
• Familiarity with plumbing systems design and layout planning.
• Strong attention to detail to ensure clean and accurate finish plumbing work.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as part of a construction team.
• Effective communication skills to coordinate with supervisors and other trades on-site.
• Commitment to safety practices and adherence to OSHA and site-specific safety requirements.

Work Environment

You will work on a large, ground-up construction project consisting of approximately 180 apartment units. The standard schedule runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with the expectation that you arrive by 6:45 a.m. for orientation and daily preparation. This is an active construction site environment that operates throughout the winter, so you should be prepared to work in outdoor and cold-weather conditions and dress warmly. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required every day, and you must bring and use a full set of plumbing tools on site. The role involves working with a variety of plumbing materials and systems, including PEX, PVC, copper, gas lines, and sanitary lines, in coordination with other trades on a busy multi-story residential project.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Smithtown, NY.

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr.
