Salary : $48,323.24 Annually Location : Saint George, SC, SC Job Type: FULL-TIME Job Number: 02478 Department: Fire Rescue Department Opening Date: 08/25/2026 Closing Date: 9/30/2026 5:00 PM Eastern Description The base annual wage is generated from a base hourly rate of $17.53 per hour under the standard shift schedule of 48 hours worked and 96 hours off. Built in overtime is paid at 1.5 times the hourly rate for all hours worked in excess of 106 hours in a 14 day pay cycle. Additional overtime opportunities for shift coverage may be available per departmental policy. These opportunities would provide pay in excess of the base annual wage. The purpose of this job is to perform general firefighting work, to respond to calls for emergency services and to perform related work as required. This position consists of technical work in the prevention, control, and suppression of structural and non-structural fires; responds to fire and rescue calls; suppresses fires; renders emergency medical assistance while on-scene; and operates fire rescue equipment. This class reports to the Fire Captain of their station and functions on a shift working 48 hours and 96 hours off. This position works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. This post has been extended. Duties

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Participates in the work of an assigned fire station.
• Responds to fire/emergency medical and non-emergency calls
• Performs firefighting and fire suppression activities.
• Administers emergency first aid.
• Participates in drills, demonstrations and courses in firefighting techniques.
• Adheres to station policies and procedures; ensures compliance with all federal and state regulations.
• Assists with pre-fire planning, prevention, and apparatus checks.
• Performs duties in a manner consistent with safe practices and policies.
• Utilizes all fire suppression equipment, hand, and power tools
• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the Fire Chief, other fire departments, other emergency response agencies, law enforcement agencies, co-workers, volunteers, and the public.
• Maintains cleanliness of station.
• Keeps physically fit.
• Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Special Qualifications, Certifications and Licenses:

• Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina state driver's license.
• IFSAC/Pro Board Firefighter I

• NIMS-ICS 100, 200, 700, 800

• First Aid/CPR/AED Must obtain with in one (1) year of hire:

• SCDOT Class E License
• Hazardous Materials Operations
• IFSAC/Pro Board Firefighter II
• SCFA Rapid Intervention Team
• SCFA Rescuing the Rescuer
• Emergency Medical Responder
• SCFA Emergency Vehicle Driver
