About the Role

HR 2 PEOPLE is seeking a dependable, highly organized Part Time HR Generalist to support a diverse portfolio of small and growing business clients.

This role is ideal for an HR professional with approximately two to four years of progressive experience who can independently manage routine HR responsibilities, identify potential concerns, research questions, prepare recommendations, and recognize when an issue should be escalated.

The HR Generalist will work directly with the Founder and HR Consultant and support a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, recruiting, onboarding and offboarding, HRIS administration, payroll and benefits support, compliance, audits, leave administration, policies, performance management, and client projects.

This position is predominantly remote. However, occasional in person meetings, client visits, training, document handling, or other business needs may require local availability. Candidates must reside within reasonable traveling distance of Mahomet, Illinois and be able to travel locally as needed.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding
• Prepare employment documents, employee communications, forms, and HR materials
• Maintain personnel files, employee records, rosters, and HR documentation
• Support I 9 administration, corrections, audits, and new hire reporting
• Maintain employee information within HRIS and payroll systems
• Conduct first level payroll, HRIS, benefits, personnel file, and compliance audits
• Research and resolve routine discrepancies
• Support HRIS and payroll implementations and data validation
• Coordinate routine benefits administration and eligibility tracking
• Support recruiting, candidate screening, interview coordination, and hiring activities
• Assist with employee relations matters, fact gathering, timelines, and documentation
• Assist with performance management, corrective action, leave, and accommodation administration under senior HR guidance
• Research federal, state, and local HR requirements using authoritative sources
• Maintain compliance trackers, deadlines, employee notices, and required documentation
• Assist with employee handbook and policy updates
• Draft routine HR communications, policies, procedures, forms, and templates
• Maintain client project trackers and follow up on outstanding items
• Participate in selected client meetings and prepare follow up documentation
• Communicate with clients, employees, vendors, payroll providers, benefit providers, and other business partners regarding routine HR matters
• Proactively identify missing documentation, incomplete work, compliance concerns, and matters requiring senior HR review
• Perform other HR, administrative, project based, and miscellaneous duties as assigned based on client and business needs

Qualifications

• Approximately two to four years of progressive Human Resources experience preferred
• Broad HR Generalist experience strongly preferred
• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred
• Experience with employee relations, onboarding, recruiting, HRIS administration, payroll, benefits, compliance, or policy administration
• Working knowledge of foundational federal and state employment requirements
• Multi state HR experience is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills
• Strong ability to multitask, prioritize competing responsibilities, and manage multiple client needs simultaneously
• Strong research, analytical, and problem solving abilities
• Ability to independently manage assigned work and follow tasks through to completion
• Ability to recognize when an HR matter requires escalation
• Strong computer skills and comfort working in a technology driven environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and related applications
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, including Gmail, Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and related applications
• Ability to quickly learn and navigate new HRIS, payroll, benefits, recruiting, project management, and client systems
• Experience with ADP, Gusto, Paychex, BambooHR, SharePoint, applicant tracking systems, or similar platforms is a plus

This position will have access to highly sensitive and confidential information, including employee records, payroll and compensation information, benefits information, medical and leave documentation, employee relations matters, investigations, client business information, and HR systems.

Confidentiality, discretion, professionalism, and sound judgment are essential requirements of this position.

The successful candidate must be able to:

• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee, client, and HR 2 PEOPLE information
• Appropriately safeguard confidential electronic and physical records
• Maintain clear boundaries between information belonging to different clients
• Exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive employee and business matters
• Maintain a private and secure workspace when handling confidential information remotely
• Sign and comply with HR 2 PEOPLE confidentiality and nondisclosure agreements

Employment Requirements

Employment is contingent upon completion of applicable preemployment requirements, including:

• Successful completion of a background check conducted in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local law
• Execution of a confidentiality and nondisclosure agreement
• Completion of required employment eligibility and onboarding documentation
• Reliable internet access and a private work environment suitable for confidential HR work
• Ability to appropriately safeguard confidential employee and client information
• Ability to attend occasional in person meetings, client visits, or other business activities as needed

Schedule

This position is expected to average 10 to 15 hours per week . Consistent weekday availability is important because the role supports active client needs, employees, vendors, and time sensitive HR matters.

Some scheduling flexibility is available, but dependable availability during the normal business week is required.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range: $28 to $32 per hour, based on qualifications, experience, demonstrated HR knowledge, and the ability to independently manage Generalist level responsibilities.

Paid Leave: This position is eligible to accrue paid leave in accordance with the Illinois Paid Leave for All Workers Act.

Other Benefits: Employer sponsored health, dental, vision, retirement, and other welfare benefits are not currently offered for this part time position.

What Success Looks Like

The successful HR Generalist will be able to take ownership of routine HR work and move it forward without requiring step by step direction.

This is a fast moving, multi client environment. The right person will be organized, comfortable multitasking, able to shift between priorities, proficient with both Microsoft and Google platforms, and capable of learning new technology quickly.

Most importantly, this person must be someone HR 2 PEOPLE can trust with confidential information, sensitive employee matters, client relationships, and access to critical HR systems.
