Structural Detailer/Designer

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Structural Detailer/Designer to design and detail the access and support steel that goes with our facilities and equipment: stairs, platforms, ladders, handrail, guardrail, catwalks, and equipment supports. This is a combined seat, split roughly evenly between design and shop detailing. You will take a piece of structure from layout through shop drawings in Autodesk Inventor, work with our outside Engineers of Record when stamped engineering is required, and produce the fabrication drawings and bills of material our shop builds from. Your drawings go to our own shop, and you can walk out and see them built. You will join a team that is investing in standards, tools, and training rather than reinventing every job, with a defined career path into Structural Designer II, Structural Detailer II, or Detailing Lead.

What You'll Do

• Lay out and model stairs, platforms, ladders, handrail, guardrail, catwalks, and support steel in Autodesk Inventor
• Apply OSHA walking-working surface requirements and customer specifications to stair, ladder, and guardrail geometry
• Prepare design packages for Engineer of Record review and incorporate their markups, member sizes, and connections
• Produce shop and fabrication drawings, connection and member details, and bills of material
• Use our standard connection details and standard designs, and help improve them where they fall short
• Manage revisions in Autodesk Vault and work directly with the shop on fabrication questions
• Build your skills toward Structural Designer II, Structural Detailer II, or Detailing Lead

What You Bring

• Associate’s degree or higher in drafting, design, engineering technology, or a related field
• 2+ years of structural steel design or detailing experience; stairs, platforms, and miscellaneous metals preferred
• Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, or strong experience in Tekla, SDS2, or AutoCAD and the ability to transition
• Working knowledge of AISC steel construction practice, connections, weldments, and fabrication methods
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements for stairs, ladders, and guardrail
• Bonus: structural engineering coursework, an engineering degree, or an EIT
• Bonus: experience in agricultural, grain handling, or industrial facilities
• Bonus: exposure to Revit or Navisworks for facility coordination
