Security Officer

Job Summary St. Joseph Hospital - Lake Saint Louis is seeking a Security Officer. The position is PRN with variable shift and work as needed. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and willing to become an armed officer while employed. The role requires successful completion of a psychological evaluation via a third‑party company, a valid driver’s license in Missouri, and a motor‑vehicle record check. Responsibilities Protect property and staff by conducting interior and exterior rounds, observing for safety and security issues, theft, and monitoring parking lots. Promote visitor and employee safety by providing door checks, detecting lighting deficiencies, confirming proper operation of elevators, assisting disruptive individuals, patient restraints, and providing escorts to staff and clients when requested. Respond to overhead pages or requests for assistance, including escorting emergency personnel through the building and providing post‑mortem services. Provide professional customer service in complex situations, using a proactive approach to identifying hazards and communicating with clinical staff. Observe and report any security concerns or assessments. Complete incident reports and shift logs and forward them to appropriate individuals. Perform maintenance assistance such as alarm testing, checking life safety equipment, AEDs, oxygen tanks, fire extinguishers, access control, badging, and door integrity. Enforce organization policies and procedures. Assist with monitoring, reviewing, and investigating incidents using the video management system. Operate motor vehicle to patrol as required. Maintain a constant state of alertness and safe behavior. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience. Must successfully complete a psychological assessment after conditional offer of employment. Physical Requirements Constant use of hearing to receive oral communication and hear alarms. Constant use of vision for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more). Constant lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0–25 lbs. Frequent use of speech to share information orally. Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25–50 lbs. Frequent standing, twisting, and walking. Frequent use of vision to judge distances, spatial relationships, and to identify colors. Occasional bending, stooping, climbing, kneeling, sitting, squatting, reaching, gripping, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements. Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing over 50 lbs. Occasional keyboard use and data entry. Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors. Occasional driving. Rare crawling, running, and lifting/moving patients. Professional Licenses and Certifications Valid Missouri driver’s license. Security Officer License – St. Charles County or St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, as applicable.
