RN II - Short Stay

Responsible for the pre and post-operative care for patients with a variety of health care needs and disease processes. Care includes technical skills, equipment, assessment, pre and post education, and discharge in a fast-paced environment. Identifies common recurrent patient problems, symptoms, and behavioral changes using standards of care. Recognizes symptoms of cardiac or respiratory distress or other impending emergencies. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the care of patients during post-operative phase two recovery. Accurately interprets ECG rhythm and manages care of patients during life-threatening emergencies. Demonstrates knowledge of lead functions and application. Understands and follows the chain of command per policy. Reviews medical history, physical examination, nursing care plan, and all available assessment data. Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and reports it to the appropriate person. Delegates patient care tasks to ancillary personnel based on individual competency and scope of practice. Evaluates the effectiveness of care performed. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the health care team. Educates patients and/or their families regarding care. Uses teaching methods appropriate to the age, condition, culture, and assessed learning readiness of the patient. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided. Consistently performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
