Physicians In Gastroenterology (Gi)

The Wilmington VA is hiring for a full-time Gastroenterologist Physician. The Gastroenterologist Physician will treat and manage patients who have illnesses related to General Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. The incumbent will provide comprehensive care to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Gastroenterology conditions in the outpatient, inpatient and community living center settings.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completing patient encounters, inpatient consults, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines
  • Clinical duties will include diagnosing, treating and managing patients referred for management of GI disorders including liver disease, Hepatitis C, and liver transplants based on standard and customary methods and techniques in the outpatient setting
  • Managing care for Hepatology patients
  • Providing comprehensive care to include diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and education of patients with Gastroenterology conditions in the outpatient, inpatient and community living center settings
  • Performing surgical procedures, with required expertise in in all areas of Gastroenterology including:
    • Proctoscopy and/or flexible sigmoidoscopy - colonoscopy, including biopsy and polypectomy
    • Esophageal dilation - diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy
    • Therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy
    • Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy
  • Administration of Moderate Sedation - supervision/teaching of surgical residents
  • Providing consultation in an outpatient clinic setting and on inpatient wards
  • Conducting telemedicine visits for patients in outlying clinic

Education Debt Reduction Program (Student Loan Repayment): is a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. EDRP Authorized: Authorized

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME)

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA

Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)

Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory

CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)

Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am to 4:30pm. Call rotation will be among other GI Physicians.
