Summary/Objective 

Abode designs and implements programs for utilities and government agencies throughout New England to accelerate the adoption of decarbonization measures (such as air-source heat pumps) by providing outreach, education, consultations, and technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, community advocates, and other stakeholders. These decarbonization programs require understanding and navigating the interests of multiple stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with experience in the energy efficiency industry and a strong background in program and team management to play a foundational role in scaling innovative programs that help realize the climate impacts of decarbonization in the residential building sector. 

Responsibilities 

The Associate Program Manager (APM) will report to a Senior Program Manager and work closely with Abode’s decarbonization team. The APM will provide day-to-day management of projects, overseeing operations, coordinating with contractors, customers, building owners, and ensuring the timely achievement of program objectives. The APM will play a critical role in helping to extract lessons and solutions from the work done to solve day-to-day issues. 

This position will include some or all of the following responsibilities. 

• Serve as a primary point of communication with building owners, contractors, and other stakeholders, including coordinating project timelines 
• Manage all aspects of HOMES program operations including project tracking, documentation, and compliance with federal and state requirements 
• Updating documentation to meet evolving needs 
• Ensure audit data is reported in standardized spreadsheets as required by the U.S. Department of Energy
• Coordinate contractor and partner trainings on HOMES program requirements, audit standards, and heat pump installation 
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to multifamily building assessments, energy modeling, and program compliance 
• Assist the Abode implementation team with scheduling, documentation, organization, and reporting  
• Create professional reports and case studies summarizing program performance, methodologies, and lessons learned 
• Collaborate with Abode leadership on program design, policy updates, and strategic improvements 
• One-off projects, research, and analysis as needed to support program success 

Qualifications 

Strong candidates for this position will bring most, if not all, of the following skills and experience: 

• In-field experience implementing multifamily energy efficiency or HOMES-type programs, or equivalent program management experience in a related field (utility, government, or nonprofit energy programs) 
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Level 1 and Level 2 audits and whole-building energy modeling methodologies for multifamily buildings 
  • Experience working with heat pumps, electrification, or other decarbonization technologies in residential buildings 
• Experience with energy modeling software used for multifamily buildings (such as EnergyPro, Equest, Treat, SNUGG-Pro, or equivalent tools that meet DOE HOMES program modeling requirements and can generate BuildingSync-compatible audit data) 
• Exposure to and interest in energy efficiency and electrification measures in the residential space as evidenced by previous academic, work or volunteer experience.   
  • A degree in related fields (such as building science or sustainability) strongly preferred  
  • Related industry certifications (such as HERS, PHIUS, BPI, or LEED) is preferred 
• Familiarity with federal or state energy incentive programs, particularly the Inflation Reduction Act and DOE-funded initiatives 
• Strong project management skills with ability to coordinate multiple complex initiatives, balance high-level objectives with critical details, and track program metrics 
• Demonstrated track record of successfully managing and motivating teams in a collaborative environment 
• Strong, effective oral and written communication skills; both 1:1 and in group presentations 
• Aptitude to quickly learn and work with software such as Microsoft Office and Salesforce.  
• Adaptable, flexible, and collaborative team player with a positive can-do attitude and strong work ethic 
• A self-starter who can anticipate and overcome obstacles independently 

Compensation and Benefits 

This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting salary targeted between $80k and $90k, depending on relevant skills and experience. The APM will work primarily out of the employee’s home office or attend meetings as needed in Abode’s Concord MA office or offices of partners and stakeholders.  Abode offers its employees a competitive benefits package, including Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, and Disability Insurance, a matching 401k, and fully paid Parental Leave.  We also believe you should be able to balance your work and personal life, so we offer generous paid time off of more than 30 days, and reasonable flexibility in when and where you work.
