Phlebotomist

This is a contract job opportunity with the potential for permanent employment. Location: Imperial, CA Schedule: 6 AM to 6 PM depending on the location they are covering; shifts will be 8 hours. Projected duration: 3 months, with potential for permanent placement. Job code: CVDJP00035078 Pay rate: $22 to $25 per hour. Benefits are available. This is a float job covering areas in Brawley and Calexico, with mileage expenses paid. Requires a clean driving record and reliable transportation. Summary The main function of a phlebotomist is to assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training and making workflow recommendations. Position Responsibilities Experience with blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, decontamination, and updating patient information. Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Explains the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods (e.g., urine or fecal) in a clear yet courteous manner. Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles. Fully understands all physicians' orders. Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes. Labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required by test order. Verifies test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy. Packs specimens for transport. Stores specimen samples at the required temperature, places them in appropriate containers, accurately labels them, and follows protocol for transport to maintain specimen integrity. Complies with OSHA and DEP regulations. Attends annual department trainings. Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required. Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
