Maintenance Engineer

Position: Maintenance Engineer – Staybridge Suites North Charleston, SC NAMAN HOTELS owns and operates over twenty hotels across North and South Carolina and builds and manages Hilton, Hyatt, and Holiday Inn/IHG brands. As our Maintenance Engineer, you will oversee, coordinate and assist in all maintenance activities of the hotel, ensuring repair, prevention, and engineering activities are completed, supporting capital repair and renovation projects. Responsibilities Effectively and professionally communicate with co‑workers, guests and management staff. Follow company policies and procedures. Ensure all fire and safety inspections are completed and discrepancies corrected. Ensure the safety of the department and building. Administer the preventative maintenance program as required. Complete training regarding safety, security, department procedures and service guidelines; conduct training of co‑workers and subordinates as needed. Provide a professional image at all times through appearance and dress. Meet with vendors and suppliers to discuss scope, products and materials used in repair activities. Obtain pricing and bids, or develop cost estimates as directed. Be available to drive to local stores to pick up last minute supplies. Supervise and maintain and repair fire and life safety systems, room equipment, HVAC, plumbing and electrical systems, kitchen appliances, refrigeration equipment, pool equipment, lighting, laundry equipment and other systems as directed. Perform skilled repair and maintenance operations using power tools, hand tools, welding equipment, etc. Monitor tool inventories. Monitor supplies, budget expenditures and place orders with approved vendors as needed. Maintain working spaces in a safe and clean condition. Qualifications Two or more years of maintenance, construction or related experience – hotel or multi‑family experience preferred. Technical or engineering degree/certification from a recognized technical school or institute is preferred. Ability to work well in stressful, high‑pressure situations including handling guest complaints and disputes and resolving them satisfactorily. Comprehension and understanding of complex maintenance systems such as electronic door locks, make‑up air systems, laundry equipment, tankless water heaters, HVAC systems. Maintain composure and objectivity under pressure. Effective at handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, “owning” and solving problems as necessary. Effective at listening to, understanding and clarifying concerns and issues raised by associates and guests. Approach all encounters with guests and associates in a friendly, service‑oriented manner. Comply and encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times. Long hours are sometimes required. Strenuous work exertion up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Ability to stand for long hours at a time. Will be required to work nights, weekends and holidays. Will be required to work in fast‑paced environment.
