Responsibilities Performs security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle to deter crime, preserve law and order, and safeguard life and property. Warns, issues summons, or makes arrests for violations of state laws, local ordinances, or Virginia Port Authority rules and regulations. Conducts interviews with victims and witnesses and gathers information and evidence regarding investigations. Responds to calls for the protection of life and property, as well as the enforcement of laws, local ordinances, and Virginia Port Authority rules and regulations. Controls traffic flow and enforces state and local traffic regulations. Issues citations, makes arrests, and participates in and conduct a variety of criminal investigations. Maintains compliance with MTSA regulations in accordance with our Facility Security Plan. Provides assistance to customers, employees, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner that instills trust and respect within the community. Investigates and prepares factual reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Prepares related documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Testifies in courts and at hearings. Prepares documentation and presents case evidence. Inspects and maintains assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment. Ensures that all equipment is working properly. Reports any defects in need of correction to leaders. Remains knowledgeable of court opinions and new and innovative law enforcement techniques and ideas to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
