Director of Field Operations

Doorvest

Director, Field & Maintenance Operations

About Doorvest

Founded in 2020, Doorvest is a real estate technology and investment platform that democratizes access to single-family rental investing. Headquartered in San Francisco and backed by top-tier venture firms including M13, Mucker Capital, and Gaingels, we've helped hundreds of investors build wealth through institutional-grade real estate.

We run an end-to-end platform spanning acquisition, management, and exits, with curated single-family rentals across Ohio, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. We've crossed $100M in assets under management and distributed more than $36M in rent to investors. We are scaling fast, and we run our operations like a technology company: distributed teams, a managed vendor network, and a heavy reliance on data and tooling to move faster than a traditional property manager ever could.

The Role

We are hiring an operator to own maintenance and field operations across every market we serve. You will not personally swing a hammer, and you will not run a single local office. You will build and run a distributed operation where a network of vendors does the work on the ground, while you orchestrate it remotely: dispatching jobs, holding vendors to SLAs, managing last-mile logistics, controlling spend, and keeping homeowners, agents, and internal teams unblocked.

The work spans the full range of physical property needs, from routine HVAC and plumbing troubleshooting to make-ready turns, light remodels, and full renovations that get homes ready for sale. The common thread is execution: jobs get scoped, dispatched, completed, and billed correctly, on time, across many markets at once, without you ever being in the room.

This role is for someone who treats roadblocks as something to be removed, not reported. You are relentless about closing tasks, comfortable building process from scratch in a high-growth environment, and fluent enough in technology and data to design systems rather than just operate inside someone else's.

What You'll Own
  • Build and run the maintenance and field-ops engine across all Doorvest markets, coordinating work remotely through a distributed vendor network rather than local on-site staff.
  • Source, onboard, manage, and performance-review vendors and contractors (including offshore support teams), and hold them accountable to cost, quality, and turnaround SLAs.
  • Own last-mile execution: dispatch, scheduling, parts and access logistics, escalations, and the hand-offs between vendors, agents, and homeowners that usually cause delays.
  • Own the financial side of maintenance: estimate review, vendor billing, invoice accuracy, and finding the most cost-efficient way to get quality work done at scale.
  • Ensure all turnovers, renovations, inspections, and routine maintenance hit internal SLAs across markets.
  • Communicate with homeowners to scope and approve recommended work, and keep real estate agents and internal teams unblocked.
  • Lead and grow the Central Operations team, and build the playbooks, dashboards, and processes that let the operation scale faster than headcount.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to design and launch the tooling that runs field operations. Bring the operator's perspective on what to build.
  • Live in the data. We invest heavily in instrumenting operations, and you'll use that data to find the most efficient, financially responsible way to run maintenance at scale.
  • Take on special projects, including operational integrations of acquired companies.
Who You Are
  • 5+ years running operations at scale , ideally in a high-growth, technology-driven, or marketplace environment (e.g. logistics, field services, last-mile delivery, on-demand services, gig-economy ops, supply chain, or rapidly scaling startups). Multi-market or distributed-team experience is essential.
  • 5+ years managing people and managing a network of external vendors or contractors to hit hard SLAs.
  • A technology and data orientation: comfortable working in spreadsheets and operational tooling, partnering with Product and Engineering, and using data to make and defend decisions. You'd rather build a system than firefight one ticket at a time.
  • A track record of aggressive task completion and high ownership: you drive outcomes through roadblocks, with high energy and a bias toward action.
  • Strong communication skills with vendors, executives, and customers alike.
  • Comfortable with a flexible schedule (including occasional weekends/holidays as the business requires) and occasional travel.
  • Bonus: familiarity with property maintenance, construction, or renovation; experience standing up operations in new markets; property-management software exposure (e.g. Rentvine). None of these are required if you've run distributed operations at scale.

What We're Not Looking For

This is not a traditional property manager role, and it is not a single-market or single-portfolio job. If your background is running on-site or regional multifamily property management, this likely isn't the right fit. We're looking for an operator who has scaled a distributed, vendor-powered operation and wants to build the next one with strong technology and data behind them.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Competitive base salary (based on skills and experience)
  • Full benefits package (upon completion of probationary period)
  • The chance to own a core operational vertical and build it from the ground up during hyper-growth
