STGi is currently seeking qualified Part Time Psychiatrist candidates to support STGi CBOC located in Hopkinsville, KY.
Psychiatrists' duties may involve several aspects of psychiatry and will focus on the evaluation and treatment of Veterans who suffer from a variety of mental health conditions including, but not limited to, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, dementia, substance use disorders, and other related conditions.
Psychiatrists are responsible for assessing the patients' needs, developing a comprehensive collaborative care plan, and delivering high-quality evidence-based mental health care. The psychiatrists are also responsible for documenting care provided in the agency's electronic medical record within the required timeframe. Staff psychiatrists shall be responsible for inpatient, outpatient or residential care, graduate and undergraduate medical education, and scientific research, as appropriate. Psychiatrists are able to perform and teach all of the psychiatric services required to psychiatry residents.
Psychiatrists contribute to the training and supervision of psychiatry residents. Educational experiences are also provided to appropriate health care personnel who seek training in mental health services (e.g. medical students, psychology and social work interns, physician assistant and nursing students, and non-psychiatry medical residents).
Psychiatrists perform the following major duties:
1. Application of accepted protocols for assessment of the individual presenting with altered mental status. Assessment may include: gathering verbal and documented history, mental status examination and medical and laboratory evaluation.
2. Diagnostic description or formulation to guide appropriate acute and secondary treatment interventions.
3. Provision of psychiatric care according to his/her privileges.
4. Psychiatrists participate, as assigned, in quality assurance activities and peer chart reviews.
Responsibilities of the Psychiatrist:
1. Staff psychiatrists are ultimately responsible for all aspects of psychiatric care. They will work within a mental health treatment team to evaluate, diagnose, treat and discharge co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorder.
2. Staff psychiatrists will provide or assist residents, the advanced practice nurses and/or physician assistants in the process of evaluation and treatment of the psychiatric patient, and actively participate in corrective actions against untoward responses to psychiatric interventions.
3. Staff psychiatrists will evaluate the patient to assess changes in the physical and mental status. A progress note is written in the patient's electronic chart in a timely manner. Notes also include the concurrence with notes written by the resident, and attending notes as appropriate.
4. The incumbent will participate in quality assurance, process improvement, peer review and other performance monitoring, as required, by the Chief of Service or his or her designee.
5. The incumbent will maintain BLS certification, medical licensure and other institutional requirements.
6. The incumbent performs inpatient psychiatry consultations, residential or outpatient psychiatry evaluations and treatment. The incumbent will share patients and responsibilities with psychiatrist(s) assigned to the same program.
7. During on-call hours, staff psychiatrists shall be available for all emergency psychiatric interventions. The incumbent will take his/her share of the on-call responsibilities. 8. Staff psychiatrists are appropriately credentialed and privileged. They participate in various hospital committees, departmental and hospital in-service programs, and education programs of the department and the hospital. They are also involved in continuous quality improvement through peer review process.
9. From time to time the Chief of Mental Health Service may change the incumbent's assigned duties.
