Conducts medical exams of children entering the foster care system./ppJob Description: Education: Required: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from an accredited school of nursing Licensure/Certification: Required: Active and unrestricted CA licensure as Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) Nurse Practitioner Furnishing (NPF) license number from the California Board of Registered Nursing (BRN) Current board certification as NP by a nationally accredited organization in a population foci Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate to dispense controlled substances (II-V) National Provider Identifier (NPI) CURES registration Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) Experience: Required: Two (2) years of experience in child abuse pediatrics, including conducting forensic medical exams for sexual and physical abuse, and the care of children in foster care/ppReports To: BSCC Medical Director and/or Eisenhower Emergency Department Medical Director Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients: Pediatric, Adolescent Blood Borne Pathogens: High Potential/ppSkills, Knowledge, Abilities: Ability to be flexible in response to unexpected change in work volume, Ability to establish good working relationships and work in a professional manner with patients, physicians, and co-workers, Ability to function in a high volume environment, analyze situations quickly and accurately, and take appropriate action, Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, Ability to problem solve independently, Ability to work independently and exercises a high degree of initiative, judgment and discretion, Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, Strong understanding of evidence-based practice, medical guidelines, and state and federal healthcare regulations, Written and verbal communication skills/ppEssential Responsibilities/pulliDemonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations./liliSecures appropriate consents for treatment, medication administration, photography and/or forensic exam./liliPerforms timely, thorough and professional forensic examinations, evidence collection, and documentation as per protocol, including providing timely, thorough, and professional forensic evidence collection, documentation/photo documentation, and preservation of evidence./liliEvaluates pregnancy risk and offer prevention as appropriate (which may be in conjunction with the Emergency Department physician); obtains informed consent as needed./liliEvaluates and treats prophylactically for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) as per protocol and as indicated, which may be in conjunction with Emergency Department physician./liliAssesses, documents, and seeks care for injuries noted on forensic exam and reports any findings that may require immediate medical intervention to Emergency Department staff/physicians and BSCC Medical Director and refers patient to Emergency Room physician for further evaluation and care as warranted./liliPerforms medical exams of children entering the foster care system./liliProvides crisis intervention and ongoing support and education to victims and support persons throughout treatment; appropriately refer victims for immediate and follow-up medical care and/or counseling./liliProvides discharge instructions, follow-up medical care options and referrals, which may include Victims of Violent Crime Compensation./liliSchedules and performs medical follow-up as per protocol and as needed./liliParticipates in peer review, process improvement and quality review./liliMaintains annual competencies to conduct forensic evidentiary examinations./liliProvides expert testimony in court when indicated/subpoenaed./liliAttends monthly Multi-Disciplinary Team meetings with law enforcement, prosecutors and Child Protective Services./liliPerforms other duties as assigned./li/ul/div
