Job TitleCustodianJob DescriptionEnsures the delivery of excellent customer service by performing responsible work in the regular care of City facilities. Assists in the coordination of various services in cooperation with internal and external customers. Working hours: 5:00 am - 1:30 pmEssential DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.Ensures the delivery of excellent customer service by performing responsible functions in the safety, security, maintenance, and regular care of City facilitiesAssists in the coordination of various services in cooperation with internal and external customersUtilizes appropriate interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with a diverse customer base, some of whom may occasionally display emotions such as confusion, frustration, or angerPerforms the following regular custodial cleaning functions in your assigned buildings: Performs basic sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping of floorsCleaning carpets with extractorSpot cleaning carpet and upholstered furnitureOperate a wet/dry vacuumCleaning and disinfecting urinals, toilets, and lavatoriesRefilling soap, towel, and toilet tissue dispensersWash windows, walls, woodwork, and bathroom fixtures using laddersGathers and disposes of trash from interior and exterior of assigned buildings; gathers paper for recyclingDusts office furniture, partitions, high and low ledges and moldings, and venetian blindsAssist with cleaning parking decksReports repairs beyond capabilities of custodial workers to supervisor or crew leaderMay perform routine security to include locking and unlocking doors and deactivating alarm system of assigned building, and reports unusual observations to supervisorsMonitors cleaning of stairwells, elevators, restrooms, hallways, and meeting roomsAssists customers in accessing servicesCleans and maintains the sidewalks and steps adjacent to assigned buildingsMaintains flexibility to work all city buildings as needed as well as occasionally working outside normal hoursLoading and unloading cleaning & polishing equipmentLoading and unloading materials from truck or vanMaintains inventory of cleaning supplies, materials, and equipment in custodial closetsReports repairs beyond capabilities of custodial workers to supervisorMay perform routine security to include locking and unlocking doors and deactivating alarm system of assigned building, and reports unusual observations to supervisorsResponds to special requests from user agenciesResponds to emergencies such as snow, flood, wind storms, etc.ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONSOther duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate service deliverySUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESNoneMinimum Education and Experience RequiredQUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE 10th grade education and some building cleaning experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.Additional RequirementsRelevant background checks (criminal and reference) must be completed and approved.Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment.
