Ophthalmic Assistant Certified
Ophthalmology | Vancouver, WA Full-Time | 0.80 FTE | Day Shift Pay Range: $28.06 - $37.88 per hour The hiring rate is dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to education, training, work experience, terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement, seniority, etc.

What You'll Do
As an Ophthalmic Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping patients feel informed, comfortable, and cared for throughout their visit.
You will:
- Welcome and room patients.
- Gather ocular, medical, and family health histories.
- Document patient information accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Prepare patients for examinations and procedures.
- Perform ophthalmic testing, including visual acuity, visual fields, pupil assessments, intraocular pressure measurements, extraocular motion testing, and refractions as appropriate.
- Record provider findings during visits and assist with scribe responsibilities when assigned.
- Educate patients about eye conditions, medications, treatments, contact lens care, and procedures.
- Instill ocular medications as directed.
- Support telephone triage and patient follow-up communication.
- Process referrals, documentation, coding, and other clinical support tasks.
- Dispense contact lenses and reinforce patient education.
- Prepare and stock exam rooms and maintain clinical supplies.
- Sterilize and process ophthalmic instruments and diagnostic lenses.
- Help maintain efficient patient flow while ensuring each patient receives personalized care.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Completion of an accredited Ophthalmic Assistant program or equivalent training and experience meeting certification requirements.
Experience
- One year of experience in an ophthalmology practice preferred.
Credentials
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required upon hire.
- Medical Assistant Registered (MA-R), Washington State, required within 120 days of hire.
- Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification required within one year of hire.
- Completion of a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant training program or equivalent work experience and successful completion of the JCAHPO COA examination within one year of hire.
