Respiratory Therapist (RRT) Full Time Permanent

Avera Health, a regional health system based in Sioux Falls, SD, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team. In this role, you will provide high‑quality respiratory care to patients across the lifespan, including those with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disorders, in hospital and clinical settings. Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the care team, you will assess patients, perform diagnostic tests, implement and monitor respiratory therapy treatments, and respond to respiratory emergencies. Daily responsibilities include administering oxygen and aerosol therapies, managing ventilators and other life‑support equipment, performing arterial blood gas sampling and analysis, and documenting all care in the electronic medical record in a timely and accurate manner. You will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and the proper use of inhalers, nebulizers, and home respiratory equipment, always demonstrating Avera Health’s values of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, calm under pressure, and comfortable working in fast‑paced environments such as intensive care units, emergency departments, and step‑down units, as well as general inpatient and outpatient settings. You will participate in interdisciplinary rounds, contribute to care planning, and follow evidence‑based protocols and infection prevention standards to ensure the highest level of patient safety.
