Harvey Way, Hampton, VA 23668 The incumbent provides mental health therapy for eligible students in the Student Counseling Center (SCC). The clinician provides clinical psychosocial assessment, individual therapy, couples and family therapy (as applicable), group therapy and independently documents the workload in the confidential medical record system. The clinician will provide outreach services, campus resiliency trainings, group therapy/group workshop services and partnerships with student organizations to promote a welcoming and affirming mental health environment for student. The incumbent will be responsible for providing outreach and educational presentations surrounding posttraumatic growth, suicide prevention and awareness, and resilience to the campus community and will provide crisis intervention services to the general student population. The Incumbent provides these services in a very independent fashion with consultative supervision with the Director of the Student Counseling Center. Examples of Duties Independently performs case finding functions and outreach, identifying and screening students for psychosocial needs. Incumbent must possess the knowledge and ability to independently implement treatment modalities, provide counseling or psychotherapy for individuals and groups. Independently conducts psychosocial assessments. Develops treatment plans in collaboration with the student and with the Student Counseling Center if applicable. Incumbent possesses the skills to offer psychosocial interventions and measures outcomes to interventions. Independently identifies high-risk patients and provides crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint, coordinates family conferences and serves as liaison to family members, faculty, and other University Personnel. Has working knowledge and experience in use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures. This includes acute, chronic and traumatic illnesses/injuries. Develops campus education materials/modules and assists with Peer Counselor activities as assigned. Provided after hours and on-call crisis intervention services. Independently provide consultation services to other university staff regarding the psychosocial needs of students and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plan. Ability to evaluate incumbents’ own practice through professional peer review, case conferences and other SCC organizational means. Incumbent can communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people from varied backgrounds. Coordinates mental health outreach services for SCC, to include workshops, group therapy services, campus presentations, mental health trainings, etc. Coordinates and oversees SCC social media and technology-based efforts as a form of outreach. Assists the Director of SCC in establishing and maintaining Community partnerships related to mental health and suicide prevention. Coordinates and oversees the planning, implementation, and evaluation of theory-based, culturally sensitive and evidence informed mental health promotion and suicide prevention strategies, policies, programs and services that address the mental health issues in the Hampton University student population. This may include but is not limited to developing a comprehensive tracking system for outreach programming, including effectiveness of programming, utilization of resources and maintaining abreast of mental health trends, which will inform outreach services. Works closely with the University Health Center and community partners to develop strategic plans, goals and measurable objectives for mental health promotion and suicide prevention programs and services. Develops and utilizes assessment of mental health needs on campus (e.g. sleep, suicide prevention, sexual assault prevention, etc.) to guide strategic planning related to mental health outreach. Tracks and reports University outreach outcomes. Able to meet the needs of students while supporting HU missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (students, HU faculty and staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Incumbent can provide the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. The licensed clinician exercises independent clinical judgment in the practice and provision of client/SCC services and university needs (clinical care, consultation, and education). The incumbent consults with peers, the SCC Director, and other members of the HU Staff and SCC Director who assumes broad oversight responsibility for the structure and functioning of the SCC to which the incumbent is assigned. The clinician performs duties independently, reporting to the SCC Director, who acts as the immediate supervisor and leave approving official. Other duties assigned by the Student Counseling Center Director and/or Assistant Director of Student Counseling. Typical Qualifications This position requires one who is student-centered, accessible and open to providing mental health services to students. Clinical experience working with diverse populations as it relates to resilience, posttraumatic growth, and the stigma of mental health. The successful candidate must be able to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff and administrators and serve as a liaison and student advocate when needed. Must possess the ability to deal with student crises as they arise. Experience with outreach programming, web content management (e.g., social media), creative design (e.g., creating flyers) is desired. Supplemental Information Completion of a Masters Degree in Counseling from a CACREP accredited school and/or a Masters Degree in Social Work and licensure in a state at the independent/clinical practice level. A terminal Masters Degree in Psychology may be considered. Must be licensed to practice Counseling, Social Work, Psychology (e.g., LPC, LCSW, LCP, etc.) Experience in outpatient mental health, medical settings, and/or University Counseling Centers preferred. #J-18808-Ljbffr Hampton University
